The Next Day…
Kreed was dressed in his uniform for the first time since the accident. He had just finished attaching his Ensign’s pip and made sure everything was in place. His medals (a condition for his trip put forth by Command) were set perfectly and he felt good, all things considered. He had a cane, although he didn’t really need it. He looked at himself in the mirror one last time.
“You look sharp, Kreed.” a voice said form behind him. Kreed turned to see Dr. Holt, the Physical Therapist. “How are you feeling?” Kreed nodded. “I feel very good, Doctor. Thank you. Soreness is still there, but I think the adrenaline for being out of the hospital for a bit is masking some of it. i will make sure not to over exert myself.” Holt chuckled. “Ever the doctor… well, good luck. Bring me back a hat if they have one, will you?” and he waved and left the room.

A couple minutes later, Hart showed up in her white nurse’s uniform and smiled. “Well, I bet that feels better. You ready to go? And for the record, if you hear anything, the disagreement between myself and some of the doctors is nothing you have to worry about.” There was a fierce gleam in her eyes.

Kreed didn’t turn, still looking at himself. “It feels… odd. Not the uniform. The rank. I still find it difficult to grasp that I fell unconscious a Cadet, and awoke an Ensign with a full commission in Star Fleet.” He then turned and looked at Hart. “Did you know that less one hundredth of one percent of the population of the Federation are Star Fleet officers?” He looked back in the mirror. “A small percentage, indeed.” He took a breath and then turned, seemingly nonplussed about anything. “Shall we, then?” and he stepped out of the room and onto the ward.
Leah smiled as they stepped into the corridor. “It is an achievement, and one I personally don’t take for granted. I could have stayed in civilian health care, but I drawn to this life. Sometimes we just have to go where we feel we can best serve.”
A nurse walked up to him and smiled broadly. “Doctor Kreed… I am pleased to see you stepping out for a change. Do NOT push yourself, however. I expect to see you walk back in here later; not being pushed in a chair.” Kreed nodded once. “My word, Nurse Simms.” He looked back at Hart. “Lead on.”

Leah led him through the hospital and to the transporter centre attached. She gave the operator the instructions and she had prearranged the visit with the captain under strict medical orders that Kreed was to be given some space to move about as he wanted to. But beyond that, she couldn’t predict how any of this would go.
Stepping up, she looked to Kreed. “When you’re ready and on your orders,” she said with reassurance.
