Roman shook his head to answer the second question. “I don’t think so. I think she just wanted her normal routine. She always goes jogging.” But right now, jogging wasn’t good for the concussion.

~ Roman
Alwyn smiled and said : “Oh, I’m sure jogging is normal, but I was talking about after the fall.” He tried not to rush Roman. He was clearly worried, and questions like that tend to stress people more.

Roman blinked and then nodded, realizing he’d answered the question ‘wrong’. He thought back and then shook his head. “Her speech seemed a little more slurred but otherwise she didn’t change.”

“Hmm”, said the doctor, as he was searching for the brain area that could be damaged. Speech slurred… It might be the Broca Zone. We’ll put it under surveillance.

Randy returned with the bandages and a hypospray containing 2cc of cordrazine and set them on the tray next to Yarwood.

“Thanks, Randy”, said the doctor and took the hypospray from him. “If you could wrap the bandage tight around her head, I want to stabilize her internal cranial pressure.” He then started to approach Rand’s arms with the hypo.

Rand was listening, trying to keep up. Seeing the hypo she started to try and get up, pushing Roman’s hand away, despite the rush of dizzy blackness. “Wha....what’s that for?” She was not going to be sedated.

Yeoman Rand

Seeing Rand moving at the view of the hypospray, he said with a soft voice : “Hey, slow down. That’s just some cordrazine, enough to keep you awake.”

Lieutenant JG Alwyn Yarwood - CMO

Roman moved his hand when she pushed it away, placing it back on her shoulder. “Don’t move, Rand, be careful.” He said, looking down at her with concern. “It’s to keep you awake, see? Nothing bad.” He knew what she was afraid it was, and he was telling her it wasn’t, without telling Yarwood, because like his own fear of sickbay he wasn’t sure he’d want anyone besides himself and Randy to know.

~ Roman

Awake? It was enough to make her pause as Yarwood and Roman explained. “Okay.” She looked uncertain, but she stopped pushing Roman away. Randy took advantage of her hesitation and put a hand under her neck. “Rest your head back. Let me do this.” Instead she craned her head back trying to figure out what her twin was up to and he chastised her quietly. “Hold still and let me bandage this.” Randy carefully wrapped the bandage around her head.

While Randy was putting on the bandage, Alwyn pressed the hypo on her arm and pressed the button. The hypo made his typical sound, and it was done. “See ?” said the doctor with a smile. “Nothing to be afraid of.”

She let Yarwood give her the hypo, but was squeezing Roman’s hand tightly. Had she hit her head? Why was Randy putting a bandage on her head?

Yeoman Rand

“Now, I want you to focus.” From Rand’s interrogative face, Alwyn could see the effect of the cordrazine slowly working. He let some time for Rand to concentrate before saying : “What was the last thing you remember ?”

Lieutenant JG Alwyn Yarwood - CMO

Rand looked from Yarwood to Roman her brows drawing together. “When? In the gym? Or…or before?” Did she black out? She didn’t remember blacking out. She told Yarwood what happened in the gym. Didn’t she? She moved her head to look back at Randy, who told her to keep still. Then she looked at Roman, “Did…did I black out?”

Roman shook his head, glancing between Yarwood and Rand. “No, no black outs. You just weren’t supposed to be running.”

Then she looked at Yarwood again. “In the gym…jogging…I…I wasn’t suppo....supposed to. I tripped and fell.” She licked her lips and tried to breath rather than panic. Why was the doctor asking her what she remembered? “Rom…Cmdr Alden helped me up and brought me here.”

Yeoman Rand

Roman nodded. “Doctor Elbbirt said no strenuous exercise, that it was bad for her concussion. And I know how dangerous falling with a concussion can be. So I brought her just to be sure she’s okay.”

~ Roman

Alwyn smiled as he heard Rand. “Well, it doesn’t seem as bad as I thought, if you can remember some things. Still, Elbbrit was right, you were still in convalescence. Now, I really want you to rest, two weeks should be enough for you to walk again without risk. And no exercise for a month.

No exercise. She nodded she could do that. She hadn’t meant to be running, it was just…it helped her think, and she supposed she had gone to join Roman in the gym because she was restless. Wait…”two weeks? Of what? What does that mean ‘enough to walk again without risk?’ I have to stay in bed?”

Looking at Randy, he said : “Don’t forget to change her bandage every day for… 5, no, 6 days. And put her under surveillance, especially the brain activity.”

Lieutenant JG Alwyn Yarwood - CMO

Randy nodded, “Yes, Doctor Yarwood.” Rand pushed herself up to sit as soon as Randy was done. Under surveillance? “I get to go home, right?” She started to argue about it, but was afraid she might start talking in Gaelic and then Yarwood would really have a field day. She hadn’t gotten hurt. She tripped! Everyone knew she was clumsy, and they told her last week she could go home. There was nothing wrong with…nothing new wrong with her. She was not staying in Sickbay again. She really did not want to stay in Sickbay again. “I…I can home. Just stay in bed?”
