While I think the idea is good – it’s nice that we consider the psychological stress of members while working here, I find that we’re adding an extra layer of bureaucracy that might cause just as much stress that it seeks to get rid of. If I have the mental energy to apply for an AWOL extension, wait for it to get approved by my CO, etc, surely then, wouldn’t it be easier for me to just write a one-sentence post somewhere? The quality is not as good, obviously, as if I wrote much more, but it would help me motivate me to keep the story going. If we had a standard “twitter”-like sim thread (could be a fun side sim!) where no one is allowed to write more than say 150 characters, it might help encourage people to write just something even if life outside Starfleet is stressful that might help them still stay a-loop of what’s happening, remain part of the community, show that they exist, etc. Perhaps we could combine all these ideas so that there are more encouragements to stay on, help to stay motivated and make the effort of staying on less stressful and more fun and engaging, as well as showing leniency when it comes to stressful life events. That way, our ships can stay active one way or another....

That said, I’ve not been on STF for long, but this is what I’m seeing from my general observations the past few months.
