Roman didn’t see her the rest of the day, but that wasn’t that unusual to him. He saw her when she picked up the evening reports and then stayed in the lab until she came after her own shift. He had a vague idea what to do about his proposal but he still hadn’t decided when. It helped him to just focus on work for a little while.

Rand appeared after her rounds. She hesitated before entering the lab and felt foolish. Tucking her hands behind her back she walked in nodding to a couple of the officers and made her way over to the table where Roman was working. “Hi.”

“Miranda!” Roman stood when she spoke, having missed her come in. “Just a minute and I’ll clean up what I’m doing and we can get dinner,” he said, shuffling away the paperwork on his desk. “One of my officers finished a project, I’ve got all the final reports to go over.”

His exclamation didn’t go unnoticed, but no one said anything. They were used to seeing Rand meet the Cmdr at the end of her shift. They all knew they were dating, but the two had always been discreet about it. Rand blinked at him and then leaned, casually she hoped, against the table because her knees felt weak. At the same time she smiled turning slightly pink. She liked the way he said her full name, but he never did that…here. What was wrong with him? Rand wasn’t sure what to say and ended up with, “Do you need to stay?” If he did, that was fine with her. Work and service came first. That was part of the package when you signed up to serve Star Fleet.
