“Computer,” Haadok ducked into her office, “dim lights by 10%.”

Morning crept through Sickbay earlier than Haadok anticipated, leaving her to scramble through her reports in time for the Gamma-Alpha handoff. Though she sauntered into Sickbay without a second to spare, it seemed every medic and physician demanded a moment of her time. Doctor Byrd requested consultation on a Caitian presenting with severe dandruff and a sourer attitude. Fleeting questions about supply inventory, treatment options and drugs had Haadok whipping her head like an early 2000’s rockstar. And several nurses expressed disdain for some officers’ skilful evasion of annual physicals. Half an hour passed before the fatigued frenzy retreated to their respective quarters, and Haadok was left to consider the encyclopedia of knowledge they afforded.

We need a better system, Haadok mused as she poured herself a mug of black coffee and settled into her chair. Briefly, she mulled over the obstacles presented by Gamma Shift. Organisation. Effective communication. Adherence to and enforcement of protocol. Each was a product of the culture and natural discord of Gamma Shift. But, Haadok recognised there were ways to improve. Given any improvement required an assembly of now-resting Gamma Shift crew, Haadok resolved to help with a manageable problem: physicals.

Haadok sipped at her coffee and typed into her PaDD a string of simple commands. Instantly, a list of crew who avoided or were not yet scheduled for check-ins developed across the screen. Who shall I… A flicker of annoyance passed through her eyes when she realised several of Sentinel’s DHs and Command Staff rested at the top of her list. Sure, she’d served under several commanders with an affinity for dodging physicians, but it was no less bothersome each time. At least it provided a veritable starting point.

Stifling a sigh, Haadok leaned to the comm button and pressed her thumb to its face. “Haadok to Captain Rogers,” she began, “please stop by Sickbay at your earliest convience.”
