1st Lt. “DaVinci” Colter sat motionless, hidden beneath the foliage of the atoll. His binoculars were focused on the roof of the squat, square building at the edge of the lagoon. A number of people had gathered to watch the rocket launch. Most of the people appeared to be part of the team working together. Only one, a woman, possibly in her 30’s or 40’s, seemed to be not enjoying the show.

Colter’s gaze went back to the launch pad. The rocket with its fuel cylinders, had been smoking recently. The launch was imminent. Colter studied the rocket and was well aware that this was not another nuclear test. The French had recently given up it’s nuclear testing at the atoll, but recently there had been a lot of activity at the site.

It wasn’t a test–it was a satellite launching, and this recon mission was to find out who was behind it. . . .

“Generals, Admiral, what I am about to tell you is not only a concern for our nations security, but that of the whole world, “Colter began.

“In June, I witnessed the launch of a satellite from Muroroa Atoll in French Polynesia. My team was able to track launch as it headed for orbit. It’s trajectory was leading it toward the Antarctic. Just as it was about to establish orbit, we lost it.”

“Lost it, Lieutenant?. The US has one of the best tracking systems in the world, and this rocket just disappeared? Are you sure it didn’t explode?” asked the General of the Army.

“No sir, it did not. No debris was discovered or tracked back to earth, except the booster rockets that sent it into space,” Colter explained. “I feel the satellite has some kind of advanced. . . . cloaking ability, based on some kind of technology we haven’t seen before.”

The Admiral of the Navy chuckled, “Like something from the future?”

Colter’s face remained stone cold serious. “As impossible as that appears, Admiral, that is one possibility. We have reason to believe that satellite is still orbiting above the Antarctic. On July 10th, the hole in the Ozone Layer above the Antarctic grew 20% larger in a five minute period. 20% in 5 minutes, sirs!!! That is scientifically impossible with what we know about the hole. In fact, in recent years, due to the reduction CBC’s, the hole has gotten smaller. Something caused that hole to grow larger astonishingly quickly. My team believes that satellite launch I witnessed is the cause.”

The General of the Air Force spoke up next. “What kind of foolish nation would do that? It’s been a world-wide joint effort to reduce that hole and limit the use of CBC’s. Whatever country decided to play God is going to have hellfire rain down upon them from the rest of the world.

“Not a nation, sir. A man. A man with big ambitions to rule the world.”

An image appeared on the floor to ceiling screen behind Colter.
