“I don’t know much about telekinesis dampening fields. Might need a specialist for something like that.” He shrugged. At this point he thought they were over thinking it. But that wasn’t for him to say.

Graham

“In the end, it might just be a pipe dream. Most technology for that is limited and needs close contact. Still, we know little… and it may not be needed.”

“Is the device you have made going to have any effect on the rest of our people?” Dante asked them, “and how much of this needs to be sprayed for an effect to occur? Are we talking distribution through the air supply system as needed or direct spray from a hand held device? Do we have some kind of antidote for this if the reaction of these, people, is more severe than we expect should the need for this arise?”

“There should be no effect on our… people from this universe. I haven’t placed it in any mass distribution system like the environmental systems. I just have it set up in sprays, and in a portal system for doors… like the turbo-lift going to the bridge and engineering.” He paused as he looked towards Satreya. “There is no evidence to prove they are hostile… I haven’t maximized the defensive posture we could take.”

She just gave him a quick glance of acknowledgment. He well knew that she was opposed to defensive measures at all if they could cause harm, but she also knew it was necessary.

Dante nodded, “It wouldn’t do to take such a defensive position lest we encourage them, through our own behavior, to do what we suspect they might be capable of. But it is good to have a plan to fall back on if events spiral out of our control.” He looked around the table and addressed the Senior Staff again, “Dr Boja informs me that she, believes, that these, people, are within 10 light years of our current position, and possibly tracking us, or more precisely, her, at this moment. How, we do not know. Therefore I have decided to seek Them out first, and initiate contact if we can. That way, we may put them on the back foot if they assume we, or Dr Boja, is running from them and they may be more inclined to talk if their intent is indeed hostile. Do we have any comments or questions ladies and gentlemen?”

“While I agree with the strategy, I have to ask. When the ship pulls up in front of them, anything… interesting I should expect or have prepared?” Seamus asked. He had to protect the ship from whatever external threats came her way.

“I concur, Captain. Let’s take the ball score first. They’ll then know that we are aware of them. At least they won’t have the element of surprise.”

Colter (CIO)

“Standard First Contact procedure” he said to the CTO, “Our mission is still one of seeking out new life, but I would like shields already up and Phasers ready to come online in a blink.” Then turned to Colter, “I am hoping that without that element of surprise, any hostility they may have had would be suppressed completely, especially if they are not much more advanced than us, or at all.” He nodded to the two in thanks for their questions, and kept looking around the table.

Satreya was quiet, knowing that at this point there was little to say that wasn’t emotional and overly personal. It was bad enough to have so much of life become an open book, but to also have to go on the defensive against people you wished against all hopes were allies and not enemies was, well, difficult. And all but Teller and Jarred were unaware of the deep marks her childhood had left on her. Dante knew enough to probably extrapolate, or at least imagine, but he didn’t know the details.

She had managed to exist on this ship as a trusted doctor, and she had mostly managed it without that awkwardness that came when people learned about her abilities and reacted in fear. Would that change now? Colter was all too curious now and she doubted he’d leave well enough alone. Sighing inwardly, she looked up in time to catch Knight’s glance and shake her head a little.

Lt. Boja, CMO

With a slight nod in recognition, Dante sat back in the chair and looked around, not waiting for a question this time but now to move forward. “Alright ladies and gentlemen, you now know our course. Any further questions can come to me, and any other idea’s, I want to hear them. These people may or may not be hostile, but the general feeling we have is that the potential for conflict is present. Once we have narrowed down our search location, we will begin. Doctor Boja, Lieutenant Graham would you remain behind for a moment? Mr Colter I’d like you to join us as well. The rest of you are dismissed to return to your duties.” Dante now stood to stretch his legs a moment and see his staff out, before moving to the view port and watching the stars a moment.

DaVinci was about ready to stand and leave as well when Dante asked him to remain behind. Sitting back dowm with his hands clasped on the table, he simply replied, “Aye, sir.”
