Whether she was ever going to be the future Mrs. Ex-Dante Knight did not matter right now. The fact that Ashley was a dork was the conversation on the table. “Did you know that redheads come from a gene called MC1R. It is considered a mutation because it is only found in less than 5% of the population. Besides giving a person red hair it has been discovered that mutations in MC1R can increase pain perception. It also causes people to tan poorly. So if pasty pale whiny girls are your thing than she is your girl,” Daye said driving her heel into the top of his foot.

Dante grunted and cringed, letting go of Nat and doubling over slightly as the pain of the stomp shot up his leg. It wasn’t anything serious or permanent, just a mixture of shock and unexpected pain.

“What the blazes are you two doing? This isn’t some Klingon Mating Ritual! What in the name of my great grandfathers Sunday prayer session is going on here? This is combat training!” Horrible Hornsby bellowed at the two, accompanied by the curious and confused expressions on the faces of the rest of the class. “Daye, you better finish him!” The instructor yelled, no sympathy in his voice in the slightest.

“What the heck Nat!?” Dante said, looking up at her and reaching down for his injured foot, “You have an issue with Redheads? At least they seem to know what it is they want and aren’t afraid to go get it. When Ash wants something, she goes and gets it. Even if it’s not me she wants anymore.” Dante’s voice had taken on a mean edge, there was no hurt in it, just the sound of someone who was close to having had enough and was starting to realize it.

Dante’s word somehow hit a nerve with Daye. “No I have an issue with you,” she said forgetting everything about her training. Instead, Daye went with gut instinct. Launching her self across the mat, Natasha jumped on Dante’s back and clung on for dear life. The sudden extra weight and the way Nat didn’t care if she balanced it made Dante stumble a bit. “God I thought you had a backbone. I mean you expect to be a captain and make the hard decisions but you can’t make one for your personal life,” she grunted not sure what to do now. She theoretically had the high ground figuratively and literally only Daye did not know what to do with it.

Stumbling with the weight of the Russian spider monkey jumping on his back and placing her arms around his neck, Dante took a moment to regain some semblance of balance, and then happened to look at the crowd of people watching the ‘demonstration’ of hand to hand combat, and Horrible Hornsby standing to one side and glaring at the two of them, as they were, and of course they were, making a mockery of his class. “You think I can’t leave her?” he said to Tasia, “That I can’t cut someone out? Don’t push me Nat, I am loyal to a fault, loving and faithful but I expect honesty and trust. That is a two way street for me, if she causes that to be gone from us, I will walk. I deserve better than to be treated like that after all I have given her.”

“Yessss,” she grunted holding on for dear life. She had no plans on how to win but sometimes you could just wear your opponent out by force of will or body weight. While she was only 130 pounds, even seasoned men like Hornsby could only hoof it several miles before the buck thirty lump on their back drove them to their knees. That was her only play. To wear him out because there was no way she could beat him head on. “Yeeessss youuuu dooooo,” she fought to get each word out just as hard as Danted fought to get her off his back and in a position he could take control of. “Deeeeserrrrrve mooooore.”

“Get the hell out of my gym!” Hornsby roared at the two of them, and Dante, hardly able to breathe much with the wiry little arms holding him tightly, reached around once or twice but couldn’t quite get hold of her as she shifted left and right to avoid his hands. Finally, with as much of a salute as he could muster and the other Cadets smirking and hiding wide grins behind their hands, Dante turned, and walked, backpack and all, into the nearest locker room which, thankfully, was empty as the Cadets still had an hour of practice to go.

“Alright, get off” Dante said through gritted teeth. “You’ve made your point.”

When Natasha made no move to get off him, Dante turned, and leaned back firmly on the wall, squashing Nat between him and the solid surface, then reached behind him and grabbed her legs, one on each side, to prevent her wriggling out from behind him, then he twisted his body, holding her in place as much as he could until he was facing her, Natasha still jammed between the wall and him, still holding on stubbornly.

“Fine....uncle,” she said in a fiesty tone but had stopped wiggling as her eyes met his. This was the first time she was ever eye to eye with him and not being tossed over his head onto a mat. His eyes were such a perfect blue and the fire behind them showed how much passion was held in check. His movements were always controlled but his eyes showed a different side. They were piercing yet gentle. They could look through you to your soul but only to find the truth that lay there. Daye could stare into them all day and never grow tired.

Now, they were close, like they had been at the tree, but Dante was full of fire, his eyes blazed with the guilt of knowing what he had to do with Ashley, of anger at Natasha making him look a fool, and being right, and because he realized other things. “What the hell do you want, Nat” he asked her as he looked into her eyes from inches away, he could feel her breath on his lips, feel her pressing into him, felt her thighs to either side of him on his hands where he still held her so she couldn’t escape. Without waiting for her to reply, Dante felt himself moving without thought, on pure instinct. Something he had realized he wanted. He kissed her. It wasn’t as soft as she had kissed him under the tree, not searching and wondering or making a point. His kiss was firm, stronger, searching for her lips, searching for her.

Daye felt his lips press against hers. The feeling made her dizzy and lose track of what she wanted to say to him. She needed to gain control of the situation. Trusting that he would not drop her, Nat reached up and slapped him hard on the side of the face. “I am not that type of girl,” she said feeling her palm sting. If any other set of eyes was staring back she could have shrugged it off and walked away but there was something about his. Moving her hands to the sides of his face she pressed her lips to his with just as much fierce determination as he had shown a moment earlier. “You should ask a girl if you can kiss her before you kiss her,” Daye said moving her mouth to his ear and biting his earlobe. Moving her lips down his neck she wrapped her arms around his neck and breathed in the scent of whatever he was wearing.

He lowered his head slightly as her lips touched his neck, and he returned the soft caress with his on hers for just a moment before he pulled back his head and physically lifted her higher, forcing her to look at him again but leaving her arms around his neck. “So I might have deserved the slap, but I had a pretty good idea that you might appreciate the gesture” he told her, his lips in a very slight smirk as he bit his lip slightly and raised an eyebrow.

“I am a fan of the simple things like a good cup of coffee, conversation, getting to know one’s fellow cadets,” Natasha replied settling back in his arms with a smirk of her own.

“We are in so much trouble, you know Hornby is going to have us up for behavior unbecoming don’t you?” His grin widened for a moment before he looked at her more seriously, the fire in his eyes not diminishing, only seeming to increase with their current position. He could feel his heart pounding, smell her perfume, feel her breath, and it was driving him to places more commonly reserved for closed doors. Holding her against the wall, he let go of one of her legs and raised his hand to take the hand that she had slapped him with, and carefully threaded his fingers through hers, gently. Then he raised that hand to his lips and brushed them with her fingers.

“You’ve always been there, over the last few months” Dante told her, “always ready to talk or spend some time together, like I was the person that mattered to you.” He let his lips run up her wrist and her arm, the skin and toned muscles bare from her gym gear.

“If you continue with this course of action we will be facing charges on public displays of affection, fraternization with a superior officer, and public indecency. Might be good for your career. Show you think outside the box and a risk taker,” she teased him with a smile. Getting a bit more serious Natasha met his gaze with her own. “And why would I not want to spend time with you? You make me laugh. You can be fun when you are not all worried about academy rules and such.” Natasha slowly moved forward and pressed her lips to his holding the kiss for a few long seconds. She broke the kiss and pulled her head back looking at him. It was always like this with them: a carefully balanced game of chess. Dante made his move by excluding them from the group. Natasha slapped him feigning an unwanted kiss excuse. Dante had come back with a heartfelt response. The only move she had was to follow back with a dare. “So are we done here or what handsome,” she said feeling her breathing increase as she waited for his answer.

Lt. Natasha Daye, Medical

“Oh we are far from done” he breathed to her softly, looking at the door and back to Tasia with mischievous grin. “Show I’m a risk taker you say? Why would you ever think I’m not?” He said as he lifted her slightly higher against the wall, and adjusted his hands to move to her waist. Natasha had lit a fire in him that he knew was there for her, but hadn’t let be lit. With the two of them at eye level, Nats gorgeous eyes had him lost in their depths, making him want to sink into her soul and feel every inch of her being with him. Dante realised then he needed her, in his life, romantically and physically. And right now.

His lips travelled from her lips and along her jaw, finding the soft spot under her ear and then along the line of her neck to her shoulder. He could feel her warmth, feel their bodies pressed together, and his fingers searched for the lip of her gym shorts. “We’re done when I say we are Tasia” Dante smiled as his lips ran over the soft skin of her neck. “Risks be dammed, I need you. Now.” His lips returned to hers, and his fingers slid between the lip of her shorts and her skin.

The good girl Natasha should have said no and put the breaks on their newest workout. She should have remembered that Dante was not hers but someone else’s. It was pretty much of a certainty that Dante was going to drop her like a hot potato after about thirty minutes but something in Daye wanted that thirty minutes. She was not the type to sleep around nor steal someone’s boyfriend for fun and games. Natasha always had a strict hands-off policy with men that were attached. That was however before she met Dante. Daye wanted to get to know him. She wanted to learn everything about him. She wanted to be his. Feeling his lips find all the right spots on her neck, lips, and shoulder sent Daye into dream-like state. She did not fight but encouraged his efforts with those of her own. For the next twenty minutes, they engaged in another form of sparing that had been practiced since time immemorial.

Flopping back onto her back, Daye pulled Dante’s arm down so she could prop her head on it as they caught their breath “Hey Knight,” she said looking up at the ceiling. “I was wrong about something.”

“You are a risk taker far more than I thought you were. I mean women in the guy’s locker is pretty much a staple in every teen dream drama queen holo out there but a guy making out with a girl in the woman’s locker room....you got hutzaph,” she said with a small laugh. “Should we get some burgers after this?”
