(Snip)Sinclair looked the man over and said in his heavy brogue “Well, that depends entirely on you then, doesn’t it Ensign…?” he let the sentence end in a questioning manner. He didn’t have any appointments scheduled at this time, but he was also well versed in the tendency for crew, especially new crew, to simply ‘show up’ for their on boarding assessments.

James winced just slightly at the word ‘Ensign’, but nodded. “That’s true, I suppose, Sir.” He swallowed once and met Royal’s eye. “If you’re busy I can make the usual appointment for evaluation, Sir… I had just assumed you’d been given my personnel file, and I wanted.. to make it known that I won’t be a problem here.” James paused, unsure. “If you take my meaning, Sir. …I just want to get on with my work and keep my head down.” His blue eyes flitted down to the Service Cross once more.

Sinclair chuckled. “Well, you know what they say about assuming, right?” and he gestured to a chair. “Why don’t you drop that duffel and take a seat, Mister Franklin.” he said, noting the small microexpression to the man’s new rank. “Want something to drink?” he asked as he stood up… and up… and up. The man was almost seven feet tall and built like an Engineering Section bulkhead. But even with his size and obvious physical strength, he wasn’t intimidating. He was more like the big brother everyone wanted. He seemed to exude a sense of non-judgment and trust. He stood at the replicator and said “Black currant tea with lemon.”
Sinclair, CNS
Franklin flushed just slightly. But he lowered the bag to the deck and allowed himself to sink into one of the chairs. Regardless of how Sinclair thought he came off, his size did, in fact, intimidate… if only slightly. Though Royal definitely didn’t come off threatening in any way. James didn’t really look any more comfortable than he had been, but he was at least trying to relax. Though, he was wishing he’d kept his mouth shut earlier…
“Thank you, Sir… I’d pay double for some black coffee, if you don’t mind.” The accent made it sound like ‘Caw-ffy’. The accent often meant people had a little trouble understanding James clearly, or regarded him as a little less intelligent because of it. Oddly, he didn’t have any issues understanding Royal, maybe accented english gave the user greater ability to comprehend syllables…

Sinclair got the tea and then the coffee and made his way to the seating area and set the drinks down on the table. He turned and retrieved a PaDD form the desk and then took a seat. “So how was your trip out to the ship?” he asked nonchalantly.
Sinclair, CNS
James gratefully took the offered coffee mug in his hands. It was a small relief to have something other than the conversation to focus on for even a slight moment. Though he did reply politely: “Oh, I can’t complain about the ride over… Though I’d just as soon never step foot on a runabout again, least ways not one I haven’t stripped to the frame and checked over with my own hands. Good Lord, sir, is this real coffee?” ‘Can’t’ sounded like ‘Cain’t’. His blue eyes closed for half a second as he inhaled before taking a long sip. Finally the semblance of a smile appeared on his face. Even if it were replicated coffee, it was damn good, and it was hot. Franklin opted to keep the mug in his hands, as the warmth felt good.

Sinclair shrugged. “Not real, but as close as you’ll get. I had a few recipes loaded in as ‘morale and welfare supplements’. It’s amazing what you can get done if you say it’s for psychological needs.” and he laughed a hearty laugh.

James found himself chuckling along, somehow… Gratefully. “Well, Sir, that’s a damned good fake, I appreciate it. If more Starfleet Doctors had coffee this good, I’d be a lot less worried about these check ins..”
-Franklin, Eng
Sinclair smiled a conspiratorial smile. “Well I’m not a doctor, at least not yet, so you can relax. And I’m almost as new here as you are. Looks like we are both still getting used to our new lots in life.”
Sinclair, CNS
Franklin nodded amiably. “I reckon so, Sir. Hopefully changes for the better…” He took another sip of coffee, and tried to still his mind. “I guess I figured I’m the probie, and everyone else has been settled a while.”
