With her medical check complete and clearance officially logged, Lieutenant Lola Logan stepped out of Sickbay, the doors sliding closed behind her with a soft hiss. The shift from the sterile calm of the medical ward to the quiet hum of the main corridor was almost soothing. The air felt cooler here, filled with the faint vibration of the ship’s engines resonating through the deck plating. She straightened her uniform jacket, adjusting the collar before continuing forward with steady, measured strides. Her next destination was the bridge — the heart of command and coordination aboard the vessel.

As she moved through the passageways, the ship’s character unfolded around her — clean lines, polished bulkheads, and soft illumination from recessed lights that traced the walls in subtle blue and white hues. Crew members passed by at intervals, some offering polite nods or salutes, others too focused on datapads or repair assignments to notice. Each turn she made revealed another stretch of purposeful movement — a reminder that every individual aboard had a role to fulfill. The rhythmic sound of her boots echoed faintly, marking her progress toward the command deck.

The atmosphere grew subtly different as she neared the upper levels — quieter, more focused. Conversations became fewer, replaced by the distant hum of consoles and the low thrum of power conduits running beneath the deck. The tension in the air was not one of stress but of attentiveness — a sign that this was where decisions carried weight. Lola’s gaze swept over the corridor as she approached the lift, pressing the control pad and stepping inside as the doors closed behind her. The lift ascended smoothly, accompanied only by the soft hum of motion and the faint pulse of indicator lights.

When the doors opened, the corridor leading to the bridge lay ahead — brighter, broader, and lined with reinforced panels. The sense of authority and purpose was unmistakable. As she approached the entrance, two officers stationed nearby gave her a brief nod, acknowledging her as she passed. The automated doors parted, revealing the sweeping view of the bridge — a command center alive with quiet efficiency. Officers manned their stations, data flickering across display screens, and the commanding officer’s chair sat at the center, overseeing the operations of the entire vessel.

Lola stepped forward, taking a moment to absorb the environment — the soft hum of systems, the subtle coordination between crew members, and the view beyond the forward viewport where distant stars drifted against the black expanse. She moved with calm precision, approaching the nearest operations console before identifying herself to the officer on duty. With her check-in complete, she took her place among the bridge crew, ready to begin her first assignment aboard. The journey from shuttle bay to command had been a steady progression — a reflection of her discipline and readiness — and now, standing at the heart of the ship, she felt fully at home.

DaVinci watched the new Lt. enter the bridge and take a seat at the ops station. He glanced to his right at Kolar with a confused look on his face. He then turned his attention back to the her. He recognized her as the Saracen’s new counselor when she began to speak. . .

She then stated to the captain. “Captain. Lieutenant Lola Logan reporting for duty, sir.” She said.

“Welcome aboard, Lt. But wouldn’t you be more comfortable here at my left where the ship’s counselor would normally sit? Or better yet, please join me in the war room, so we can get acquainted.”

The CO stood and stepped to the door of the war room and paused, allowing Lola to enter first.

She looked at him with a nod. “Yes sir.” She said walking to the war room and walked in.

DaVinci took a seat at his desk. He indicated for Logan to take a seat opposite from his.

The room was literally a war room in every sense. Military weapons from Earth’s 20th century adorned the walls. Hand guns, and a sniper rifle were proudly displayed in cases around the room. Other cases held numerous ribbons and awards, including a number of purple hearts, as well as the Bronze Star and a Medal of Honor . . . .

“So, Lt. Lola Logan, my new counselor, tell me a bit about yourself. I’ve read your file, but I like to hear things straight from the source.”

“Very well.” She said. As she sat down across from him. “Well, I did go to the academy of course to become a counselor for sometime now. Never had the chance to be a counselor. I was aboard the Memorial for sometime and then heard that the Saracen had a counselor position open. Which of course caught my eye. I was only a petty officer on the memorial as a yeoman. I didn’t have much to do. Again like I’ve stated once I’ve heard that the Saracen had an opening for the Chief Counselor and Diplomatic position I knew that it was something I wanted to do. Diplomacy and counseling I did study at the academy. Happy to have graduated at the top of my class. I’ve always been so proud of myself for the accomplishments I’ve done throughout the years of my Starfleet career.” She started to go in almost full depth into her interest and her job that she did have while on the Memorial before she took this job here on the Saracen. She is proud of herself that she wants to do something better for not just herself, but for the crew and the captain.

“Interesting. So, you graduated from the Academy with your counseling and diplomacy certifications, yet were assigned to the Memorial as a petty officer. . . How did that happen?”

The CO sat back and scratched his head, a bit confused as to how Logan didn’t graduate as an ensign. “You took kind of an unconventional method getting to Lt.”

She nearly sighed but then said. “Sir, I was wanting to be higher then a petty officer. But that’s the rank I was given sadly. However, with my certifications, it was my best interest to have left the Memorial and come here. There really wasn’t anything I could do on the Memorial if you ask me.” She said.
