Admiral Vass paced back and forth in his office as he went over the details of the failed mission once more. He wiped a bead of sweat from his forehead and slumped down in his seat. “How could this happen…?” He muttered to himself as he anxiously scrolled through the roster of ships on the screen in front of him. He briefly paused on a couple but he knew this next mission would take a specialised set of skills. He smiled as a familiar name flashed on the screen before him. He tapped a few more buttons as Captain Carbine, his right hand man, entered with a fresh cup of coffee. Noticing the Admiral’s frown and worried complexion he placed the coffee on his desk as he asked, “problem sir?”Vass sighed and nodded as he took a sip of the piping hot coffee, wincing as it scalded his tongue. “Indeed, although I think I may have found the solution. Get me Captain Colter on the Saracen, priority one,” he ordered as he sighed and leant back in his chair. Carbine nodded and took the last half cold cup of coffee away, returning to his office. He sat down at his desk and opened a comm channel.
=^= Star-fleet command to USS Saracen. I have Admiral Vass for Captain Colter, priority one. =^= his voice was professional yet firm. He hadn’t got this high up by playing nice.

Colter was in his ready room during this down time, going over new crew, requisitions, and such. The boring stuff that captains have to find the time to do.
The comm chime beeped and he was relieved for the break in paperwork. That is, until he saw who the call was from. He cursed under his breath, because he knew this wasn’t going to be your average run of the mill mission.
=^= Captain Colter here, Admiral. I’d like to say it’s pleasure to hear from you, but it rarely is,=^= the Saracen’s CO replied. His voice raspy and sounding like crushed gravel.
Vass gave a wry grin at Colter’s honesty, there weren’t many people that he would expect that kind of response from although it was a refreshing change from the usual sucking up and trying to curry favour. It was further confirmation that Colter would be the right man for the job. =^= Indeed Captain, I’m afraid this isn’t a social call, =^= he replied, with an overtly concerned expression.
=^=What have you got for us, sir?=^=

CO USS SaracenVass sighed and wearily rubbed his neck which had started to stiffen after hours sat in front of a screen. =^= What do you know of the Javoran Expanse Captain? =^= Vass asked casually, fairly sure of his answer.
“Not much , sir. A handful of Federation colonies within the system . . . .I’ve heard nothing out of the ordinary.”
Vass nodded and tapped a few buttons on his screen.
=^= Not surprising, we have a handful of colonies in the system but nothing really of note. At least, that is the official position… =^= Vass paused as he tapped his console again and a classified document appeared on Colter’s screen. Vass remained silent for a moment and locked eyes with the Captain. =^= Open it. =^= Vass ordered steadily, keeping his eye on Colter.
The captain did as the admiral ordered and scanned the contents quickly.
Vass closed his eyes momentarily and let out a deep sigh. =^= What I am about to tell you is strictly confidential. I understand you will need to share certain details with your crew but it is imperative it does not go further. =^= the Admiral had a deadly serious glare. = ^= The star-fleet colonies in the Javoran Expanse are a cover for a covert tactical relay station, Relay Station Epsilon. It is of vital importance for coordination of our subspace defenses and its existence was meant to be highly classified. =^= Vass sighed again and ran his fingers through his hair.
=^= Four days ago, Epsilon stopped transmitting. We sent an elite commando team to investigate led by Commander Diako Jacob, =^= Vass paused, still feeling the sting of the loss of a trusted friend. =^= Less than 24 hours ago, we received an emergency signal from Javor VI…Commander Jacob and his team are dead. They were attacked by an unknown group of elite soldiers. Jacob’s message was brief but he reported that they showed incredible speed and dexterity, they knew our star-fleet protocols & tactics and they were clearly aware of the existence of the relay station. We assume that they are the ones who deactivated the station. =^=
Vass waited for a moment for Colter to take in what he had said.
=^= Your mission Captain, is to go to the Javoran Expanse, locate and destroy this organisation and repair the relay station. You are to rendezvous with Commander Greenway on Javor III, the largest of our colonies in the sector. She will fill you in on the specifics. Do you have any questions? =^= Vass asked, a slight wave of relief flushing over his face. He knew Colter would get the job done.

“Sir we have a transmission for the Captain on a priority one frequence,” the comms officer said to Kolar who was in the conn. It was about time they sent them out for a mission.
“Patch it through to his quarters,” Kolar stated.
Kolar XO
DaVinci made mental notes to himself, replying, “Cmdr. Greenway, Javor III, Epsilon station–repair it, shut down the bad guys . . .any hypothesis on who may be responsible/”

Vass sighed and shook his head. =^= We don’t know much yet I’m afraid, we have not received any communication from this group claiming responsibility or giving a list of demands. As far as we know they are a new faction in the quadrant, their soldiers are highly trained and seem to be aware of star-fleet procedures so we can’t rule out the possibility that they have infiltrated our ranks or have received tactical information from someone in the fleet…=^= Vass’ words hung in the air. The notion that someone could be aiding these dangerous people was too frightening to comprehend.
=^= This is a highly critical and time sensitive mission Captain, if this faction manage to gain a foothold, the damage they could do would devastate that region any beyond, not to mention the casualty rate could be catastrophic. The colonies might be a cover but the colonists are federation citizens, many of whom have families with them. I hate to send you into such an unknown and volatile situation but I fear your ship is the only one in the fleet that stands a chance at completing the mission. Do you have any questions? =^= Vass asked, his eyes bloodshot from lack of sleep and worry.
