“Tell me about the CMO? What do you think of her medical drills with the crew. I am hesitant to say it is an enthusiastic approach to preparedness. She seems to be systematically targeting departments. Started with science first,” Kolar took a sip of his drink. “From what I read of her report I am rather intrigued as to what she has planned for command. Miss Scott appears to be targeting injuries within the scope of one’s duty” A small chuckle left his mouth as a breathy puff of air rather than a true laugh. “I really hope she does not intend to shoot you in a dark corridor or shoot me out into the vacuum of space.” The injuries cliche things an intelligence officer and the command team of a fighter ship would encounter.

DaVinci chuckled. “I’ve been shot plenty of times. Stabbed and slashed, too. Taking a stun from a phaser is nothing compared to having a small lead projectile pierce and exit your body, that pain lingers for a while.”

“I did get impaled by a crossbeam during a particularly nasty engagement on the Olinski. Not that I’m comparing wounds. That was pretty much my one and most significant injury.” It actually largely was, Kolar had been lucky outside of that incident. He had been shot at or swung at many times, but he was pretty much always missed. He had decided that the Prophets had not chosen his time yet and when he was to die… well that was that.

“I haven’t had a lot of interaction with Dr. Scott yet. Before she left, my former CMO gave Scott a high recommendation. Have you met her yet? Any concerns you have?”

“Yes,” Kolar replied pausing to gather his thoughts. “My gut says she is a great doctor but young and energetic.” The sentence was a statement but had an inquisitive tone to it. “Miss Scott came bursting through my door like she was being chased. Reminded me of the old Earth saying ‘like she had a bee in her bonnet’. She expressed some nervousness of taking over the position but just needed a pep talk.”

“There’s nothing wrong with a bit of enthusiasm for your job. I see that as positive. Having that kind of energy can be a big morale booster for sick and injured in sickbay.”

“As I said, she came highly recommended for the CMO spot by Natasha, and I’ve always trusted her judgment. I suppose I should make my way to sickbay and introduce myself one of these days.”

“You haven’t gotten the communique yet,” Kolar asked him with a slightly amused look on his face. “Our intrepid medial chief wants to run a disaster drill. She is sending everyone a condition and a time. At the appointed time they are then supposed to act out the injury and call sick bay. The doctors don’t know what the condition is or when they have to react so it is testing their skills more than anything else. I okayed it but part of me is thinking what the hell did I just do.”

“Ahhhh, no, I haven’t seen that,” DaVinci replied tongue-in-cheek. After slamming the rest of his drink, he wanted a moment to let the liquor work its’ way down.

“Actually, I did see that. I was hoping if I ignored it, Scott would forget about, me or hopefully assume I’m too busy to take part. I’m okay with seeing the final reports when all is said and done. I’m going to give you a pass on that, too, unless you want to see how well the medical staff handles the situation yourself?”

Kola pursed his lips, a veritable explosion of emotion for him, “I unfortunately feel that since I foolishly approved it. I have to observe or participate in it. He who gives the sentence must wield the sword.”

DaVinci laughed out loud. “Okay. Just remember that I did offer you an out and YOU decided not to take advantage of it. I do expect a full report on how you found the experience and if you recommend it become a regular assessment.”
