“I just travelled from another universe on a wing and a prayer. I think I will live on the wild side as you say,” Kavia paused a second and then playfull put the spoon in her mouth. Her face instantly took on an expression of pure pleasure. Her shoulders dropped and she completely slouched in the chair. “Dis is a wanana wit,” she said putting a hand over her mouth to stop him for seeing her eat but desperately needing to relay how good this tasted. “Wow my ahd it is ood.”

DaVinci could do nothing but laugh at the sight of her pure ecstasy. . .

Kavia tried to remember her manners. They were sharing so it would not be polite to shift the dish more to her side of the table. Still, that was harder than protecting that pompous government official six months ago during the riots in Alabamaia City. Both took all her skills and patience.

He reached over and plucked a single cherry from one of the mounds of whipped cream. “I’m perfectly content getting your cherry. . . ah, getting A cherry.”

“Well that depends on how silver-tongued you are Mr. Colter,” Kavia said plucking the cherry from his fingers and popping it in her mouth. “But the night is young so you have a while until I must retire for the night.”

Ten minutes later even Kavia had to admit she was full. She had eaten something called a cheeseburger with fries, a plate of peel and eat shrimp, something Colter called nachos before the dessert. Kavia never worried or claimed she loved the veggies like most women when they were around men. Leaning back in her seat she sized Colter up. The had a lot of fun and could have more when they got a few things out in the open.

“So you and I both know your dashing Captain isn’t gonna want me roaming about your ship like I own it based on my Woman Scout promise. So does that mean you have babysitting duties or are you shipping me off to some room after this,” Kavia asked him directly.

Kavia

“I wouldn’t call it ‘babysitting’. If things continue in the exciting and enjoyable fashion they are, calling me your babysitter could make things really awkward.”

“Good point. Let’s see if we can come up with a better term. How about custodian?” Kavia wrinkled up her nose shaking her head. “That sounds dreadful. What about chaperone. Hmm no that sounds like I could be a troublemaker.”

” I’d like to think of it more as being your. . . . escort. Trust me, if I were to ship you off to some room, it would be comfortable, and you wouldn’t be alone,” he replied with a twinkle in his eye.

“I am coming to expect no less,” she said looking around the room.

“Of course, some areas of the ship will be restricted for you, but I’d be more than happy to show you un-restricted areas such as Sickbay, some of the science labs, the holodeck, or personal quarters?”

Colter (CIO)

“What’s a holodeck,” Kavia said instantly turning her attention back to Colter.

Kavia

“If you thought the banana split was a slice of heaven for the taste buds, the holodeck will knock the socks off of the rest of your senses.” He thought for a moment for a way to best describe the deck to someome that had never experienced anything like it before.

“It’s a special room on the ship, there are a number of them on a ship this size. It’s capable of creating an extremely real-life artificial intelligence. Sounds, sights, smells,. . . .all your senses will believe what you are experiencing is real. It can create any kind of environment you can think of, even people, all created out of solid holographs. The first time I used one, I couldn’t believe it wasn’t real. I was light-years from Earth, and there I was, back home in Wyoming. You have to see it, to believe it. Care to check one out?”

Colter (CIO)

“And why would my answer be no,” Kavia said standing up from the table. “Can we go now?” Kavia’s excitement was almost palatable.

“Of course.” DaVinci stood and offered his hand to Kavia. The two then began making their way to the holodeck.

“I want to see your world. What’s it like? Technological to be sure but do you have any natural spaces. Can I see your capital? Will there be other people there or will we be alone?” Kavia’s questions came like a kid excited about a vacation. “There is so much I want to learn about your little corner of the universe and tie could be of the essence so if you are free maybe we can finish the night off in this holodeck?”

Kavia

“Earth, my home, is just one of a number or worlds in the Federation. Each planet is as varied as the people living on them. Earth, for instance has many different climate regions–freezing arctic tundra, hot dry sandy deserts, steamy tropical rainforests, and temperate forests and grasslands. In my home area of Wyoming, there are the Rocky Mountains to the west and the Great Plains to the east, with wild horses running free through the wilderness. It is really quite beautiful”

As they continued to walk, DaVinci halted and raised an eyebrow with a suspicious grin. “Your people aren’t planning on invading Earth, are they? You are asking a lot of questions about our universe.”

Colter (CIO)

“Pfft,” she waved off his comment looking at the people passing them in the hall. “If we wanted to take you over we would have already. We just got the conquering out of our system during our teen rebellious years about 500 years ago. Now the whole pillage and plunder thing seems so beneath us.” Her tone was flippant and she never made eye contact with Colter as she spoke. Only when she directed her gaze back at him did Kavia start to laugh.

“Okay you know I was kidding right. All civilizations have a bloodthirsty past no one is proud of. If it will make you feel better you can ask me anything. I am literally a walking computer for the most part with my eidetic memory. Just like you if I can answer I will and with pure honesty. The only thing I ask is for you to not lie to me. If you don’t want to share just throw that out Sure it will make me suspicious and wonder why you can’t tell me but it is better than me catching you in a lie as I leave your quarters tomorrow morning. That is unless you prefer to come back to mine after you amaze and dazzle me with this holographic display of lights and sounds.”

Kavia

Wow, DaVinci was actually a bit surprised at her forwardness, but pleasantly surprised none the less. “That’s not all I plan on amazing and dazzling you with.”

Continuing with the flirtatious conversation, he added, “You may not be able to walk tomorrow morning, let alone leave any quarters. . . “

They had reached the holodeck and DaVinci turned toward the closed doors. “Computer, run Jamaica Program Delta Zero-Zero-nine. Clothing appropriate for one adult human male, and one adult . . . human female.” For all inents and purposed, Kavia seemed pretty much to be no different than a human female, at least physically.

The doors opened and the pair entered. As they stepped in, Davinci said, “This is one of Earth’s most popular tropical vacation spots.”

The scene shifted to a sandy beach with crystal clear blue waves gently caressing the shore The palm trees swayed to and fro matching the warn tropical breeze.

When Kavia turned to look at the CIO, she would see his uniform had changed into a pair of red Bermuda shorts the hung just above his knees. His well-developed, chiseled torso and arms were bare. When she looked at her own outfit, Kavia would be wearing a red flower print sarong around her waist, with a matching halter bikini top.

DaVinci looked at her and smiled, but noticed something was missing. He looked around at the immediate foliage and found a red flower. picking it from it’s stem, he placed it behind her ear. Taking a step back, he added, “Perfect.”
