Siarram took his time heading to the XO’s office from Sickbay, wandering the halls and noting where things were. He had a good sense of direction, especially on ships. Once or twice was all it would take. This was the second thing on his checklist of first day aboard things to do, and he liked to be very efficient in getting things done.

Finally he arrived in front of the door and rang the chime, waiting for an answer. He was not known for nerves and seemed calm and patient, his hands held behind his back in a professional way.

The door slid open and Cmdr. Colter stood there. He stood slightly taller than the engineer, but wider and solidly built. His perpetual 5 o’clock shadow covered the defined lower jaw and squared chin. His voice reminded people of someone walking on crushed gravel.

“Lt. Ch’Thannaq, I presume? I’m Cmdr. Colter. Welcome to the Saracen.”

“I was just on my way to engineering. I’d be happy to show you your new playground if you haven’t seen it yet.”
