Hannah wasn’t really thirsty or hungry so she politely declined the offer. Plus she imagined it might be hard for Cori to watch others eat and enjoy their favorite foods and drinks when she could no longer do so. “Thank you, but I’m okay.” Plus her stomach seemed to be in knots all the time anyway, ever since she’d done Daniel’s surgery. Hannah and Cori wouldn’t know it but their thoughts were very similar. The only friend she had, at the moment, on board was Daniel. The XO had been very welcoming, but she wasn’t sure she would call him a friend. And she was very uncertain about what was going to happen with Daniel. She knew what she wanted, and she thought she knew what he wanted, but....she’d mourned him for so long she wasn’t sure that she wouldn’t wake up soon and find that she’d dreamed the whole thing, and he’d be lost to her, again.
Hannah took a seat and looked around again. “I like how you’ve made it for your needs, rather than leaving it to look like every other quarters. There are things you don’t need and so instead of leaving them, you’ve made better use of the space for yourself.”
Lt. jg Asimina, DoctorDalton looked around skeptically. “Well I still have a bed in the bedroom but I don’t have a better use for that space right now so I left it.” She shrugged. “Honestly, it doesn’t feel right yet. But engineering has agreed to help me by installing holoemitters permanently throughout the space. That way I don’t have to go through Sickbay to charge and use my emitter and like… you know, come and go like a normal person.”
“That would give you some…normalcy? Though I’m not a good judge of what is normal. Could they not build you a second mobile emitter? That way you would have more access to the rest of the ship when one is charging? It seems with all our technology now we could provide you more freedom.” Hannah’s deafness had never prevented her from coming or going. Until her implants it had limited her choices, her options to some extent, but not her ability to move around. Medical technology could make paralyzed limbs work, could replace organs, could provide chairs to make those without mobility be able to move around at will. Why hadn’t something been made for Cori? Holoemitters across the whole ship? An extra mobile so she could still move around when one was charging?
It had taken Jarred weeks of overtime hours in addition to hi normal CE duties to make the emitter based off some experimental designs. And even then it had take awhile longer of them tweaking it till it was stable enough to hold a matrix for her. Then there were CO changes and of course her disappearance. The emitter seemed to be less of a focus now that they had this alternate project. A part of her didn’t want to get her hopes up, but anything more simple than this current set up was ideal. And that wasn’t even dealing with the emotional aspect to it all. “Maybe. But… it’s complicated,” Cori said softly.
Hannah didn’t say anything else. She didn’t know Cori that well and she didn’t want to seem to pry. Though she was more than willing to listen. She liked Cori, she wasn’t sure why, but first impressions she was someone Hannah felt she could be friends with.
“Speaking of, you mentioned interference. Do you just need to scan my emitter and filter out the frequency?”
~Corinne Dalton
Hannah came back from her thoughts and nodded, “I hope that’s the case. Every ship is different, runs on different frequencies. It usually takes me a day or two to isolate all the different radio signals and adjust for them, but usually I just have to figure out what is making the signal and then adjust for the frequency. Does proximity to my implants seem to be causing any trouble for you? I know my old ones used to create feedback in the combadges when I would talk. It took some tweaking to get them to stop doing that. These of course are much better than my first ones, but that doesn’t mean they wouldn’t cause problems.” She takes one off and holds it out for Cori incase she wants to examine it and make sure it’s not giving her problems.
Lt jg Asimina, DoctorCori took it gingerly and immediately shook her head. “Nah, it’s fine. I would have pinged that that instant you came aboard the ship if that were the case.” Moving off the couch to the desk, she reached into a drawer and pulled out a standard science kit. “Catch,” she said before gently tossing a tricorder at the doctor.
She sighed, relieved. “That’s a relief. I wouldn’t want them to bother you,” she said honestly. Hannah deftly caught the tricorder out of the air. She reattached her implant and then flipped open the tricorder and walked over to Cori. She pointed at the emitter, “May I?”
“I’m more worried about torpedoes and phaser to be honest. Failing shields are more of a problem than small devices emitting frequencies,” Dalton admitted causally.

“There is no…back up? No separate storage for your consciousness?” She knew Cori wasn’t a program, but her consciousness was stored in the computer. Hannah was beginning to come up with an idea…but she’d have to do some research first. And the laws behind it…well there would have to be a work around for that, and if Cori was already considered still a person, then her idea…Hannah stopped before she got ahead of herself.
