Off the Lounge the oft forgotten ships barber shop was awash with freshpaint and an actual barber pole hung in the Corridor. It was brightly lit, colored in Starfleet standard colors with multiple veiwers showing sports and politics quadrant wide. There were three chairs but only one had the tools of the trade arrayed nearby. There were several comfortable chairs for witing and astack of magizine padds for reading. A coffee machine provided a heady aroma of real coffee brewing. There were glasses on the barber shelf that hinted other refreshments might be available if asked for.The lone occupant was a kindly looking gentleman in tans and browns beneath a long khaki colored button sweater that was open, he appeared in his middle to older years, soften by age, but still basically fit.

The doors to the shop opened and in walked a human male, probably in in mid to late twenties. He was a big specimen, well over six feet in height and pushing a good three hundred pounds… and it wasn’t a soft build either. Set atop the broad shoulders and well muscled frame was a head that looked more like something seen on a statue than on a living, breathing person. He was handsome, but not in a refined manner. His face showed that he spent time outdoors, and his nose would show to a trained observer that it had been broken… probably more than once. It was as if someone had distilled the concept of ‘Blue Collar’ to it’s purest form and then made a man out of it. His build and demeanor seemed an odd fit for the blue uniform of the Medical and Science Sections that he wore, but the Lieutenant Commander pips on his collar showed that this young man was an anomaly in more ways than one. That being said, the face also held a smile that seemed genuine and friendly, and bright blue eyes held a look of friendly mischievousness. His blonde hair looked as if it should have usually been cut short, but it had obviously not been tended to in few weeks.
The big man looked around and saw the lone occupant and said “Hope you are open. I could use some cleaning up, if you have the time.”, his voice rolling out in a beautiful and smooth Scottish brogue.
Sinclair, CNS
Lews laughed for a second, “Well I’ll be Robin Hood, Little John you are real” came the reply in fluent gaelic, with a lowland fens twist of Welsh, “Pint or a tidy Mr. Sinclair?” Lews asked turning the chair and lowering it as far as it would go. Then he toed open a well hidden refrigarator, that looked like any other cabinet. as he stepped over to start the towel warmer and the wash sink. He looked over the giant for a second it was an appraising glance that was at odds with the softer appearance, it spoke of experience and skill, the quickly submerged into kindly blue eyes.

A huge smile washed across the Lieutenant Commander’s face, and in perfect gaelic came “Thank god. Someone who speaks properly for a change.” and with a glance at the opened fridge “Pint if you please, Mr… ? Sorry, new yet and haven’t met everyone.” he added, wondering if his arrival was either the subject of ship’s scuttlebutt or if there was more to the barber than haircuts and hidden liquor cabinets.
Sinclair, CNS
Lews laughed again, grabbed a frosted mug and poured a Guiness for the Counselor which was notkep in the refridgarator it was room temp in a cold glass the way beer was intended to be served. “Anaeawd Llewelyn Iarnuuocon, but Lews(Loose) is eaiser and I am new as well just transferred over from SB 257 at the start of the repairs” Lews continued in Gael, since it seemed the large man with hands that could grind an englishmans bones into his bread liked it. “I also bartend next door, and theres a kettle of stew on if you can find the kitchen.” As he passed the pint across to the Commander. “No need for the Mister, thats for Warrants and Nameless Ensigns, I am simple and plain man doing what he loves.”
Anaeawd Llewelyn Iarnuuocon, Barber
Sinclair smiled, took the pint with a nod of thanks, and said “A simple and plain man who cooks, tends bar, speaks proper Gaelic, knew I spoke it as well, and knows who I am before I have even been fully checked in to assume my duties?” and he cocked his head to the side a bit and the mischievous twinkle in his eye intensified. “Sure, Lews. Whatever you say.” he added with a friendly laugh. While it was true that Royal was the new ship’s Counselor; but his previous incarnation was as the Chief Security Officer of a star ship, so he knew an understatement when he heard one. “You know, : Sinclair said, still in Gaelic, “I am willing to bet real money that you and I are going to get along very well. And if you are the bartender at the Lounge, am I correct in assuming that you run that particular establishment as well?” and took a sip of the nectar of the gods.
Sinclair, CNS
Lews shrugged, “It is often said the measure of another man is how much he thinks like you, and or agrees with you. As for knowing whom you are Mr. Sinclair. The rumor mill is fast, and dauting on a ship this size. You are a larger than life person, that stands out, I doubt there is another counselor of human stock near Eighty percent so big. And sometimes it is easy to play the odds. And yes sir indeed a I do, just finished a major refit, you should give it a tour, no lounge like her in any ship, in any fleet in the entirety of the federation.” Lews stated it was a matter of pride that he had gotten this feat accomplished and would be serving the morale of the crew.
Anaeawd Llewelyn Iarnuuocom, Barber/Lounge Attendant
“Well, I wasn’t always a Counselor. Started off in Security.” and he fell silent a moment as a thought occurred to him. “Tell you what.” Sinclair replied, “If you can get this mop of hair on my head to look presentable, I will take you up on the stew and a tour. In exchange, I have a bottle in my quarters with your name on it. Straight from the Glen Ord distillery herself. Deal?” he asked.
Sinclair, CNS
Lews chuckled slightly, “Deal”, and then waved at the chair, as he began warming the water for his scissors, and other barber tools. “Shave as well?” Lews also grabbed a coverall sheet, and neck towel as he moved about efficiently. There was a quiet dignity to his preparations. It was something he had done a thousand times before, and would do a thousand times more. The bright blue eyes took in the details as he looked over the Security officer now Counselor. It was not hard to see what the man likely preferred his hair to appear as.
“So what prompted the switch from active to passive protections?” Lews asked as he stropped the scissors for a second honing their edge.
Anaeawd Llewelyn Iarnuuocon, Barber
Sinclair chuckled. “They asked. Plain and simple. And it is really interesting work. But I do have to say… never thought this is where my career would take me. And I do kinda miss my old job. Only thing I really got to keep was the haircut!” he said with a laugh, referencing the high and tight cut that had obviously grown out a bit too much during his transfer.
Sinclair, CNS
“Sometimes all a man wants from life is plain and simple days.” Lews chuckled and flipped the sheet around the man with practiced ease. Having seemed to not only selected but had on hand one that fit the large neck of the counselor with a soft feel and no extra tightness that indicated someone of his size had been prepared for and the needs of such person anticipated in the barber shop. The barber really seemed to be boy scout level prepared, and of keeping a shop that made it seem minimal effort was required to make flow seemlessly. Once the cover was in place the hair was trimmed first with scissors to clear the longer growth. Then clippers as a high and tight was simple enough, just required routine maintainence. Lews seemed intimately familiar with the cut and style not having to ask where the fade needed to stop just finding the right blends for the CNS’s head.
“Shave while I am here?” Lews asked nodding towards the hot towels lather brushes, and an old fashion flip open straight razor.
Anaeawd Llewelyn Iarnuuocom, Barber/Lounge Attendant
Sinclair took in the clean and well cared for shaving utensils and said “You never have to ask. I’d much appreciate it.” and then he laughed. “I haven’t seen anything like that since Glasgow. This truly is a place of immense wonder and morale-boosting magics. Well done.”
Sinclair, CNS
Lews chuckled, and reached for a hot towel, that he carefully draped over the Counselor’s face to open the pores, soften the skin and otherwise enhance the shave that he was about to give the man. There was the rattle of the lather brush in the cup as Lews created the shaving cream. There was a hint of the scents of old world leather, pipe smoke from a Scottish Gentlemen’s den, as well as a hint of the outdoors to the moment being created.
“Not everyone is comfortable with the open razor shave, especially from a virtual stranger.” Lews conceded as he removed the towel and began applying the shave cream to Mr. Sinclair’s face. There was an level of implied trust when allowing someone to use a naked blade against one’s own skin.
Anaeawd Llewelyn Iarnouucon
“And not everyone knows the feeling of sheer joy associated with an actual shave. Their loss.” he said, holding still to allow for the artisan to practice his craft. “Besides, I figure you wouldn’t cut my throat in here. It would make a terrible mess, and I can tell from how you keep your shop… you are not one for a mess.”
Sinclair, CNS
Lews chuckled yet again, “perhaps so. for me it is the implicit trust and relaxation ofthe moment.” Since the barber was bearded, one could read into his implicit trust of anyone at all. “As for the mess the entire room can be hosed down, dislike of mess yes, prepared to clean them up when forced to is equal important.”
