Doolittle cautiously escorted his patients to a biomed table and asked the Dr on duty to do a confirmation scan of what he had done on the planet of both of them.

Doolittle

The scans show that the infant was perfectly fine. The mother was physically okay but showed that she was stressed for some reason.

“Your child is fine Mrs. Pitch. In fact you are too physically. However is there anything you want to talk about? I feel there is something still bothering you.” Doolittle said as he expertly sat next to her on the biobed. This was his area of expertise. He did not want to move her far away from her child in order to not invoke any separation fears. Also she was now away from the Sierra and in a safe environment. His soothing tone was meant to enhance that feeling.

Doolittle

Mrs. Pitch relaxed a little. “I am glad that he is fine. He’s all I’ve got in the galaxy … he’s the only meaning in my life. I am glad. Would we be able to move to more comfortable surroundings? I know it is a short trip from here, but it would be nicer if it weren’t in sickbay.” Then she looked as if she remembered something, “Oh dear,” she said, “in my haste, I had forgotten my luggage. Would it be too much trouble if I asked that it be transported here?”

Doolittle did not show it but the sudden change in her behavior stunned him. Abrupt was not quite the word in her turn around.

“Yes of course. However lets get back to you. Tell me what caused your stress back on the Sierra. I mean was there something more that happened?” He prodded. He knew any real psychological trauma did not just disappear from one moment to the next.

Doolittle

She looked a little annoyed, “That captain did not say anything to us, except that we were landing and that we needed repairs. Of course we were all concerned. Then came that awful storm. We didn’t feel it, of course, but when the captain mentioned that we may have delays because of the storm, I was stunned. How could this happen? Then my Jack here started to cry. I am sure he felt the rage of the storm and he was frightened. I managed to calm him down and gave him his feed. Now he is peacefully asleep. You mention my stress. That awful captain had no regard for our feelings at all. When I mentioned about my Jack to him. he merely asked me to look for that kind doctor in sickbay. Don’t you think that kind of callous attitude is bound to give me stress?”

“Yes it could be seen that way. Of course Captain also feel stress and reacted by exerting calm and control. So that can seem callous as well in a high stress situation. Did you say you did not hear or really know about a storm but that is what you were told? If there was no way to know about the storm how do you suppose that your baby felt it?” Doolittle asked curiously.

Was this a clue of some kind or a nervous person prone to exaggerations and flights of fancy or something more?

Doolittle

Mrs. Pitch stared at him. “Of course babies know these kinds of things. What are you insinuating? I believe the Sierra would be leaving the planet soon and if we do not get our luggage, I will be left without my things. Are you trying to delay me?” Mrs. Pitch sounded very annoyed.

Doolittle observed the quick changes Mrs. Pitch was making. From a scared protective mother who was near hysteria to a logical thinking one in a matter of minutes. something was certainly not right here but getting to it would not be easy. Maybe there was a medical reason, something else happening he missed.

” Of course your right. That is being taken care of. Just a few more cautionay test. Your baby and you look fine but we just want to be extra careful to make sure this ordeal has not caused any unknown medical issues.” He said with a caring smile.

He then asked her to lay down on the biobed and ordered a brain scan to look for anything outside the usual. He accounted for the variable that she was slightly upset. He wanted to see if there was something outside the norms that would show up. While that was done he set his tricorder in sync with the brain scanner and did the same for the infant.

He thought to himself he might be overthinking this as well. This could be an overly protective mother in a stress situation and nothing more.

Doolittle

The infant did not show anything abnormal. It was still sleeping. The adult, Mrs. Pitch, on the other hand, seemed to be under a slight strain or stress. Neither did her brain function show any visible abnormality.

IC: As the mother and child did not have any medical ailments, they were assigned guest quarters. Their luggage was transported and sent to their room.

Doolittle seemed perplexed. Nothing here seemed out of the ordinary yet there was something out of the ordinary.

“Well as a MD I find nothing wrong. As a Psychologist I find the mothers behavior to be inconsistent with her situation. I am sure she is not telling me something from fear or another influence. The fact is there is nothing to give you concrete but her on going reaction to a disturbing event but none the less not traumatic is inconsistent.” Doolittle tried to explain.

About twenty minutes later a call came in. =^=Corridor AA25, Deck Seventeen to sickbay. Crewman Rodgers is down. I repeat, Crewman Rodgers is down. Subject exhibits signs of paralysis, a near total rigidity of the limbs and can only communicate by blinking. Immediate assistance required.=^= It would be the first of several such calls that sickbay would receive in the next ten minutes.

Doolittle was about to run and respond when several other calls came in. He was not used to this pace and he basically froze. However his team was much more ready than he.
” Dr. We should enact a recall of all staff. Join in our two man emergency response team and head out.” A female nurse said as she was preparing to do just that.

In fact Doolittle saw that pretty much the whole team in the expansive medical bay knew exactly what to do.

“Uh yes. Yes lets do that. Your with me.” He sorta of ordered. If he had thought about it the nurse had come up to him for that express reason. She was assigned to the CMO on the two man team.

“Lets take this fellow on deck AA25.” He said not exactly remembering where that was but was confident the nurse did.

In a matter of seconds they were off.

Doolittle and Nurse Chaplin arrived quickly.

” Update?” She called out to the crew man kneeling near the rigid body on the deck floor.

Doolittle neared but did not take the lead.

Doolittle

The vital signs were strong, and showing that he was a in a highly agitated state. He was alive. His brain activity was erratic, showing that the person was conscious but he was not able to respond. Neurotransmitter levels were consistent with a person in a state of panic.

“Sir he seems to be in shock. High brain activity but no nueromuscular response. Its as if he is having a panic attack.” The medic told Doolittle.

Doolittle hesitated then remembered his training.

“Neural suppressor .02 milligrams. Lets calm his neural activity.” He ordered.

The medic quickly prepared and gave the hypo.

Doolittle MD

The man’s neural activity dampened and he seemed to be going to sleep.

“He is going to sleep.” The medic announced.

“Well thats an improvement patient wise. It wont give us any verbal answers as what happened but he is stable.” Doolittle said.

=^=All medics if you have symptoms of panic attack but unresponsive then give them a neural suppressor hypo. No more than .02 milligrams.=^=

Doolittle wanted his patients safe first. They could ask questions later.

Lieutenant Michaels entered Sickbay just as the CSO called down to Doolittle. The Counselor, who did a short stint as acting CMO a few years back, had exceptional medical training and knew his skills would be needed if more people became ill.

“Where do you need me?” Trevor whispered as to not interrupt the comm call.

CNS

OOC: Doolittle was actually still on scene on where the crewman had fell ill. However for RP sake and the fact I was going to beam here anyway lets say he just beamed back to the Sickbay.
IC:

Doolittle had just beamed himself, the medic and the patient to Sickbay when Michaels came in. The truth is Doolittle was not that all familiar with how to run a Sickbay in a crisis.

He walked over to the CNS.

“Yes well honestly Lt. I am not all that familiar with running all of this in a crisis. We have multiple patients coming in from numerous decks all with the symptoms of having a panic attack but being completely immobilized. Not even being able to speak. For right now I am giving them neural inhibitors to calm their high brain activity but honestly I am not sure where to start.” He said honestly.

Doolittle

The Counselor pondered for a moment. “I have an idea,” Trevor stated. =^= Computer, activate Primary EMH. =^= Lieutenant Michaels then turned to Doolittle.

“I’ve been around the medical field block a few times,” Trevor exclaimed. “But we’ll need more hands if we’re going to succeed.” The Counselor looked over at the results of one of the patients. “Is there any common denominator besides their symptoms?” Trevor asked Doolittle as he watched the EMH appear.

CNS

“What is your medical emergency?” the EMH quipped as he appeared.

GM

“EMH we have multiple crew members suddenly struck with paralysis but and the same time seeming to suffer from panic attacks. The scans of their brains indicate the same.” Doolittle answered.

Why had he not thought of the EMH? Of course no CMO wanted to activate it because then it meant that he was basically useless.

Doolittle

The EMH started to scan their brains and their vitals. “This is strange,” he muttered, “I do not detect any anomaly in their brains except that there is a fair excess of electropathic residue.” Scanning further, he said, “It is almost like they have been given a extremely strong post-hypnotic suggestion.”

“Doolittle, if these were crewmembers were hypnotized we can probably break it to wake them up.” The Counselor stated. Trevor was now worried about the possibility of someone on the ship hypnotizing the crew but would be less worrisome if someone off of the ship was causing this.

“How likely can this be transferred through contact?” Lieutenant Michaels asked the EMH.

CNS

Doolittle was now very interested because this might be more psychiatric in nature. However how could they all receive such a suggestion. Low frequency emitters? He waited for the EMH to answer Michaels.

Doolittle

“Vulcans could do it by touch, although it would take quite a bit of effort unless they were specially trained,” remarked the EMH. “The Ullians are also capable, but they are not allowed by their law not to interfere in the memories of others. With implants we could cause this to happen, but there are no implants detected. If there is an unknown species that can do that, the database does not have that information.”

=^=Sickbay, this is the CAG. I’ve got six men down in CIC. All appear to be conscious, but unable to move or respond. I need a medical team here, STAT.=^=

Ricochet (CAG)

“Doctor Doolittle,” said the EMH, “Please activate the Electronic Medical Holograms Green and Gold to attend to the emergencies in CIC.”

“This doesn’t appear to have an obvious pattern.” The Counselor stated, taking note of the CAG’s comm call. “How many people with telepathic abilities are aboard the Olinski now?” Trevor called out to the computer.

=^=Commander, until we can figure out what’s causing this, please don’t touch them… we have two EMHs on the way.=^= Lieutenant Michaels replied as he waited for the computer’s response.
