As he was sending the information, he noticed a flashing symbol. Next to the symbol was a link to another interface. When he touched it, he found the data regarding the warp core. There had been no more fuel for the warp core; that is why it was offline. Diagnostics that were automatically run when the fusion generators were activated showed that except for minor misalignments, the warp core was still able to function if there were fuel.

Toro’s hatch did not lead to the warp core but to the warp engines. The tendrils that had dug deep into the planet was connected to what was the warp engines.

Toro returned “Negative on the warp core. It seems that the tendrils are connected to the warp core. We find where those are, we find the core and maybe we can get the core up and going again.” She said

“Son of a…” Michael collapsed, his back resting against the console. “We’re out of fuel. The reactors I turned on earlier are it for power. The tendrils we saw earlier on the image of the ship? Resource mines. Trying to power up the warp… core. Wait. A ship in low orbit, dead in the water. Burned up all their fuel trying to get out, and couldn’t anyway.” He rushed to his feet. “What if they got trapped in the microwaves? The Iconians didn’t start all this, they were the first victims. But maybe the mind control didn’t work, so they adapted to the native population and got out.” =/\=Gould to Harn. The Iconian ship is out of fuel for its warp core. Sir, what if she got caught in the microwaves? They tried to mine the planet for resources to fuel their warp core, didn’t work. Plan B: blend in with the natives and find a new way out. You see sir, I’m betting, at least one of them thinks like an engineer. Those microwave emitters come from somewhere and were built by someone. Find them, find their resources, maybe even a new bird, bug out.=/\=

=^=I see, so the question is, did they manage to hijack a new ship, or were they forced to simply live on the planet until the end of their days?=^= Jason mused out loud. =^=Are the denizens of that planet descended from the Iconians, or from whoever they stole a starship from? The answer would tell us why the mind control weapon was left on. The thing is, if the Iconians weren’t responsible for the mind controlling microwaves, who was?=^=

“What happens if we detach the tendrils and send over a supply of matter/antimatter and dilithium to get the ship going again?” She was not an engineer, she was an intelligence officer and this was a wealth of intelligence. “Or can we somehow use the Olinski jump start the ship?”

“Our warp drives and theirs aren’t exactly the same. But maybe a modded system… Ok. I can do this. I need the specs on their engines to see what I need. It’ll be better if we rip it out of shuttles. That way the ship itself isn’t at risk.” He tapped at the console, trying to get some idea how the Iconian engine was structured.

The engine made use of a matter/antimatter containment chamber much like the warp cores in Starfleet ships. However, they did not make use of dilithium to channel the antimatter to the chamber. An unknown material was used instead. However, as the material needed power to activate it, he would need to channel the already limited energy into the material. Furthermore, he did not detect any deuterium as fuel.

Michael exhaled deeply. “Okay. I can do this. Their engines do use matter/antimatter reaction. Problem; they don’t use dilithium. I don’t even know what the hell this stuff is. It’s probably what this ship went dead looking for. I do have an idea. I might be able to make a dilithium based bypass. I need some deuterium too. I don’t detect any onboard.” He started musing to himself, pacing back and forth. If we take two warp capable shuttlecraft, take out the dilithium chambers, fuse them together, that might work. If I route the matter/antimatter flow around the original chamber and into the new one… with some deuterium, we might be able to fly this thing. =/\=Lt Gould to Cmdr Harn. I can do it sir. But I need a very specific set of things. It’s probably best if we get it from Dragoon shuttles. Two shuttlecraft warp core dilithium chambers, fused together. I also need deuterium. And enough tubing to route the matter/antimatter flow in the right direction. Sir, this thing ran out of fuel, they mined as long as they could and abandoned ship. They didn’t use dilithium. And whatever it was they used, I don’t recognise it. That’s probably why they couldn’t get their hands on any. Sir, I know I’m rambling, but this is big. We can get an Iconian ship up and running. Request permission to proceed with the reboot?=/\=

From the tone in his voice, it was plain that all he could see was visions of the USS Yamato exploding as its antimatter containment system failed. Some people just didn’t understand what a historical moment the first Iconian starship to salvaged intact and flown under its own power could be. =^=If we have access to the colony ship’s computer, I don’t think getting her off planet is necessary. Let me check with the captain first.=^= Jason left the channel open so that Gould and Toro could hear Captain Parker’s response. Addressing his commanding officer, Jason made one last attempt to minimize the risks. =^=Harn to Parker. It’s your call sir. We may need to move that ship someday but right now it seems like more trouble than it’s worth.=^=

OOC: Sorry for being lazy … Is there an attempt to retrieve data from the ship’s database?

OOC: Information from the computer of the Iconian computer has been sent to the Dragoon. Balfor Kolar, the Olinski’s best computer expert is beaming to the Dragoon in order to decrypt the ancient computer code. Jason wants to compare the information from the Iconian derelict’s medical files with tricorder readings made on the ‘natives’ on the planet to see if the ‘natives’ are descended from the Iconian species. Computer files are not being sent to the Olinski in case there is a computer virus, like the one that destroyed the Yamato. If worse comes to worst, we can always delete all the data on the Dragoon’s computers and reinstall every necessary program using the Olinski’s computer files.

IC: The captain’s voice could be heard by the away team. =^=I agree Number One. We have specialized units for just this sort of thing in SF. We want data on who these people are more than anything so we know how to proceed. Right now they might be Iconian or some natives. Either way any semblance of violating the Prime Directive is a non issue. Someone else did that a long time ago if even. The CSO will go to you and lets keep this limited to the parameters we just discussed.=^=

As long as you have power to the computer systems and life support, that should be all we need. Mister Balfor will be contacting you shortly, standby for his instructions. Harn out.=^=

Michael gave a mock salute. “So close to history. Computers and oxygen. That’s all she wrote.” He stood, silent for a moment. “DAMNIT!” he turned and went back to the computer console. Just to make sure they’d keep breathing and he could give Balfor complete access.
