Willam sighed as he stood up, still holding the tricorder they’d been working on as he walked to his junior officer “Never confuse confidence with arrogance Ensign” He turned to the Captain “While they are indeed arrogant with a fairly obvious superiority complex, now is not the time for false bravado. Unless we get engines in the next few minutes we are going to be at their mercy.” He looked at Stone “We try to manually launch torpedoes they will detect it, back away and blow us up and we only have the two launchers right?.” He looked at the Commander next “And they don’t want to be given just one officer when they can take the entire crew” His mind was working overtime, he was certain that with more stress his less desirable personalities would start showing themselves. “If that was me over there I would have my button hovering over the fire button if we did anything funny.” He looked at the Captain again “We might not be able to disguise the torpedoes as debris but throwing them in a shuttlecraft and flying it directly at them is a possibility, but if Stone thinks that a manual launch could work it’s should be prepared simultaneously in my opinion” Again he spoke fast, as fast as he could given the dire time straits.

Grey - CSO

The Captain frowned as he listened quietly to the crew bandying around their ideas. They were not in a good tactical situation with their ship so damaged and by the brief glance he had of the enemy ship and their claims to know the state of the Chernov told him they had the technical capability to detect and scan any shuttles. He really did not see a logical way out of this situation with them in as bad of shape as they were at the moment.
“Science, scan that enemy ship and tell me what you can about their shields, weapon and scanners. Tactical, scan the immediate area and tell me if there are any spatial bodies or phenomena that we might be able to use to our advantage.” The Captain walked down the ramp to the command well and took his seat in his command chair.

Captain Stovik

Chris felt bad about the captain’s terse response. But unlike the Captain, Chris was recently put in this roll and only knew a little bit of what to do and how. He was glad that the Captain wad here with his vast experience.

Things had become more manageable in Sick Bay, and Kane made his way to the bridge. If his medical skills weren’t needed at the moment, maybe his tactical duties were. As he walked onto the bridge, he immediately felt the tension level had risen significantly. Walking over to the Tactical Console, he looked around and then asked unabashedly to the room “What’d I miss?”

Kane, Tac / Med

“Ah. Mr. Kane. Just before you entered the room the Captain told Tactical to scan the immediate area and tell him if there are any spatial bodies or phenomena that we might be able to use to our advantage. Because the enemy ship has given us just ten minutes to surrender and be tried and convicted in their court or be blown to smithereens. And we have around eight minutes left.

Commander Chris Taggart XO

Science station results would show a nebula nearby with random plasma strikes every 3 to 5 seconds. The next closest spatial body would be an asteroid with an opening to a cavelike structure that might be just large enough to fit the Chernov.

Scans of the vessel would reveal comparable shields and weapons to the Chernovs nominal strength. Estimates from power readouts would show Warp 5 as it’s max speed.

-GM

Kane looked at the scan results and said “Well, there we go.” and he indicated the two options. “We can hide in the lighting storm or duck into the hole.” and he paused for a moment. “I would recommend the cave. Random plasma strikes aren’t something we could take much of right now, and the cave looks like a one way in-one way out kind of deal. If we could distract them, blind their sensors long enough to get inside, we’d stand a good chance of living longer than 8 minutes… Of course, that would mean we had the capability of moving.”

Kane, Tac / Med

“I agree, without shields we won’t last long in a nebula even if the Cardasians leave us alone. We’ll be trapped in a cave, but it might just buy us enough time to get shields and engines online. The torpedoes we’re prepairing could buy us a few moments, to make our escape and to make it there, specialy if the Cardasians don’t expect us to have any weapons at our disposal.”

It was of course risky. The Cardasians might go after them in that cave. But they had to try something.

Lt. Andrea Stone, COS

“A tactical retreat is logical in this situation, Taggart work with Engineering to find a way to mask our movement.” Stovik said, his dark hooded eyes on the screen.

“Thank you Mr. Kane and Miss Stone. Those are great suggestions and it looks like it is all we got. Something is better than nothing.” He quickly went to his console and messaged engineering. [O] We have an option. It is a hole in an asteroid. Is there anything that you can give us to not only propel us There but to give us a distraction like a burst of weapons fire to catch them off guard? We have seven minutes left.[O]

He then looked at the Captain. “Captain. What do you think? The cave is promising and if it goes well then we can fix the ship with relative safety and concealment. If it doesn’t then it will be our tomb just like staying right here.”

Commander Chris Taggart XO

Stovik nodded,”The cave would give us a more defensible position then remaining out in the open.”

William looked around “If our deflector dish is still operational it’s possible that we might shoot them with a beam that could disrupt their systems long enough for us to hide, they aren’t as fast as we can be so a play to their arrogance might work” He paused with a sudden realization “If they truly do believe themselves to be our betters doesn’t that work in our favor” He smiled at the Commander “Professing their superior intellect and abilities might be enough to buy us some time.” He paused again “If we make our visor show a young junior officer like me ore the other senior staff begging for our lives as if the senior crew has been immobilised it’s a possibility that they would pause long enough for us to overcharge them and run”

CSO

“If they are that fidgety to want to put us on trial just for being here, maybe shooting at them isn’t such a great idea? What if we masked our run with a huge explosion? In our current state, it’s not like it would be unbelievable. “

Kane, Tac/Med

William opened his mouth to interject but was disrupted by the Commander.

Captain Stovik

“Kane. Good thinking. The Captain have us the go ahead to get to the asteroid. See what you can given their position and the where the asteroid is and gauge where the best possible explosion should be. Then find the best route to that asteroid. We won’t have much time do we need to get in there and fast.”

Commander Chris Taggart XO

“Yeah. I’m not just eye-candy.” Kane said to no one in particular and began compiling different trajectories to the asteroid. After a few moments, he sent the framework of a plan to the Captain, XO, CSO, and Security Chief. “So here’s my thought. We detonate a large IED right here…” and he indicated a spot on the diagram in front of the Chernov and between them and the Cardassians. “The initial explosion should be big enough to get their attention and then we have several smaller detonations and torpedoes fly off and all around in various directions and explode. A real fireworks show, if you know what I mean.” and then he drew a line from their current position to the asteroid. It wasn’t a straight line, but rather a course debris might take from an explosion. “This is us moving towards the asteroid, propelled ther by the explosion. Not really, but that’s what we want them to think. Once there, we detonate another large IED on the asteroid surface near our course, and pop into the cave. Hopefully, that will make them think we slammed into the rock. We’ll need debris…” and he looked at the screen on his console where bodies could still be seen drifting in the wreckage, “… and bodies. We’ll have to sell it.”

Kane, Tac / Med

O]”Scott to Bridge Loring did something, however I am not sure if it worked Sir.” [O]Tyler trying to figure out what Loring did.

[O] We have an option. It is a hole in an asteroid. Is there anything that you can give us to not only propel us There but to give us a distraction like a burst of weapons fire to catch them off guard? We have seven minutes left.[O]
XO

[O] bridge I can give you a brief burst from impulse as far as weapons there’s still several relays fused together. I recommend using a flare from the diflector to distract them.[O]

Scott, CE

William gave Kane a look of ‘Look’ “A deflector blast could disrupt their sensors long enough for us to hide, otherwise we might as well point to the distance and yell look there” He said mockingly, it seemed that the Tactical officer wounded his ego “Besides it’s not like we can survive another explosion” He moved to his console, relieving the Vulcan “We should be able to disrupt them for the lenght of that flight.”

CSO

Kane didn’t look up at the retort, and if he did pick up on the fact that the CSO’s ego was wounded he made no sign of acknowledging or apologizing for it… in fact, it seemed quite the opposite. Looking at his console Kane said “Man, that’s great. Disrupt their sensors so the ship doesn’t pick us up. Fantastic. And I’m sure they don’t have any windows on that ship like we have on ours, either. Or crew with eyeballs.” The wild-haired and tattooed man seemed oblivious to the tone of sarcasm that came with his words. Whether or not the sarcasm was intentional wasn’t clear.

Kane, Tac/Med

“Maybe you have different experience but I’ve never heard of a ship aiming weapons with eyesight and windows, without sensors they are as useful as a plywood hull”

CSO

At that Kane looked up and at the CSO, a look of irritation plain on his face. “Yeah. Well, if you hadn’t noticed we aren’t exactly a moving target, now are we? Pretty sure any weapons officer worth their salt could hit a stationary target with a simple torpedo spread… sensors or not. And if they can’t hit us from that distance?” he said, pointing to the alien vessel, “Then we really shouldn’t be worried about them at all.” and with a dismissive snort and shake of his head, he went back to his diversion planning and escape route to the asteroid.

Kane, Tac / Med

Stovik allowed the back and forth between the bridge to go for a few minutes before saying,”Can we give some of the debris enough of a sensor signature to look like biological matter? We need to get moving people, get the deflector dish ready for the attempt and any debris we can jettison.”

Captain Stovik

Kane looked at Stovik and said “We have I-don’t-know-how-many bodies floating out there. I don’t think giving them a biological reading will be a problem.”

Kane, Tac/Med

The comms panel chirped......time was up.

-GM

“Captain, the torpedoes are prepaired. If you want to use them as distraction just say the word. It would help a lot if we were moving away from here though.” Stone reported. Two shuttles could also take off, but they couldn’t prove much of a fight. In a pinch, they could distract the Cardassians just long enough for chernov to hide.

Lt. Andrea Stone, COS

“Deflector array is primed and ready, we should be able to disrupt their sensors long enough to hide” WIlliam informed them.

CSO

“Fire the torpedos at the same time as the burst from the deflector array and take us into that asteroid belt at our top speed.”Stovik said as he leaned forward in his chair, face concentrated on the forward viewscreen and the Cardassian ship displayed thereon.

Captain Stovik

“Copy that.” Kane said and programmed in the trajectory so that the torpedoes would look like they fired out randomly and their explosion radii would overlap just in front of the Cardassian vessel, but not actually hit them.

“I’d suggest a few power surges right before. Might help sell the whole ‘Oh-my-god-we-are-all-going-to-die’ shtick.”

Kane, Tac/Med

“See to it, Mr. Kane.” Stovik said as he waited to see what would transpire.
