The doors whooshing apart, he passed smoothly into the brightly lit medical bay. He straightened his red tunic top, wondering how line officers ever coped with the damn things. He already missed the one piece coveralls universal to Utopia Planitia personnel. Maybe the Captain would be amenable to changing uniform policy in engineering and allowing proper coveralls at least while on duty on the engineering deck…

He glanced around, catching the eye of the first medical officer he could find.

Gage Whitney (CE)

“Lieutenant?” A physician approached him, pulling a PaDD beneath the crook of her arm. Clasping her hands before her abdomen, she tilted her head. “How can I help you?” He was a new face, not uncommon on a ship of Chernov’s size. Albeit, his rank indicated a position as a senior officer, leading her to believe he was probably fresh to Chernov’s decks.

He glanced over as a young woman called out to him. Young indeed, despite her Vulcan ears. He truly wondered whether anyone aboard this ship was more than five years out of the Academy. If this was the state of affairs across the fleet, it was little wonder they weren’t offering daycare aboard the flagship… Then he remembered that most of the veterans of the fleet had died at the battle of Vulcan. His cheeks colored at that thought, shame here and then gone before he pulled himself together. He cleared his throat, mildly embarrassed “Lieutenant Gage Whitney, Chief Engineer. I’m here for my boarding physical, Doctor..?”
