Having dispensed with the silliness of boarding physicals, he now approached the Captains quarters. Apparently off-duty, Whitney was nevertheless still determined to introduce himself to his new boss, not whatever flunky happened to be deadheading The Chair on the bridge.

He straightened his tunic top, for the hundredth time, muttering a soft curse under his breath before tapping the door announcer

Gage Whitney (CE)

OOC: Whichever of you wants to take this one. I assume Krys since we are pre-sim? Oooh I know what I’ll do!

Instead of being called to enter the doors suddenly swooshed open and Whitney was almost knocked over by a packing crate coming toward him, borne by a very tall, lean Vulcan who’s eyebrow raised in surprise.
“I beg your pardon, Lieutenant. I did not hear the door chime. May I assist you?” The elderly Vulcan behind the box did appear to be wearing a uniform but the sleeves that Whitney could see did not have the right number of stripes.

Commander Stovik

Old he may be, but reflexes thankfully were something he’d spent decades honing on the cluttered decks of half-built ships. He slid backwards and to the side. Not quite as smoothly as he’d have made it ten years ago, but still with some aplomb. He beetled his brows in confusion as he tried to place rank insignia and pointed ears. His voice betrayed his confusion “No problem err… Commander… I’m sorry, but I understood a Vulcan Captain was in command?”

Gage (CE)

“I was but due to the nature of our upcoming mission I have had to step aside. As I have been training Captain Taggart for the position it just meant I stepped down sooner.” Glancing up the corridor he added. “Perhaps the corridor is not the appropriate place for this discussion. Would you like to accompany me to the Executive Officer’s quarters, Lieutenant ..?” Stovik allowed a pause after Whitney’s rank to prod a name from the other man. Though he asked if he would like to accompany him, Stovik stepped down the corridor toward the XO’s door while waiting for the other man to reply.

Commander Stovik

He frowned, but with such limited experience of the actual Starfleet beyond a Starfleet Engineering complex, it would hardly do to speculate. He’d had a few Vulcans rotate in and out of the shipyard studying the facility, but with such a small number left in the universe, he still didn’t quite fathom why one of them continued to serve in Starfleet. He stepped out to match pace, verbally shrugging “Gage Whitney… Commander… I’ve been transferred from the shipyard on Utopia Planitia as your interim Chief Engineer”

Whitney (CE)

“Ah, of course. My apologies, Chief.” Stovik said as he reached the XO suite and deftly held the crate with one arm while he used the other to tap the door control. “We have been expecting you but with the Admiral’s arrival and our new mission destination I must admit that it slipped my mind.” Entering the quarters Stovik walked over to the sleeping area and set the crate on the bed. Returning to the living room/office area he said to Whitney.
“Please come in, Chief. Would you like some refreshment?”
