He turned to Dawson, “I will assist in your resocialisation to your new role. When are you, in your judgment, fit to work next?”

Dawson looked between the two officers and considered. “Well, I don’t feel anything particularly wrong with me. I should be good to start my new post as soon as you feel it appropriate sir.”

Lt. Q. Dawson.

Kastarak nodded. “Very well. Please report to bridge tomorrow at oh-seven hundred hours. I will receive you and help you acquaint yourself with the necessities of the post.”

“That sounds like plan to me! Now let us eat and celebrate your return.” Chris then raised a glass in toast. “To your return!” After clinking he stomped the bottom of the glass on the table and then drank it.

Dawson gave a nod to Kastarak and then awkwardly joining the Captain’s toast. The vibrant and jovial nature of the captain seemed to rattle him slightly. It never had before. It was something Dawson rather admired about him. As Dawson took a moment to assess himself, it seemed everything was just a little too much. The lights too bright, the noise too high. Not enough to cause him real distress, but enough to notice. It was as if his body had grown accustomed to the dark and the quiet. And it was cold. He’d changed into his normal uniform, but felt still felt a chill. Again, nothing too distressing, just barely noticeable.

“I look forward to my new post.” Dawson said with a smile, dismissing his apprehensions, “I’ll see you at 0700, sir.”

“0700 sounds fine. But don’t jump in with both feet. If you need some time to adjust, then please let one of know. Take a few days off if you need to. No need to push it. OK?

Kastarak nodded. “I trust your judgment, Mr Dawson.”

Dawson nodded, “Thank you sirs. I think I’d feel best trying to get back into the swing of things. I’d rather not be left idle. But if I do feel stressed, I will let you know.”
