Posted by Lieutenant Kastarak (XO/Navigation Officer) in Main Sim: Docking at Andromeda Station, outside Pluto/Charon. – Shuttle Bay
Pluto was an aesthetically pleasing and barren planet, Kastarak thought, as he stood in Shuttle Bay, looking out through the force field upon the joint dwarf planet system below. Orbiting Pluto and Charon was new to Kastarak. He had never been here, but he knew that for the many humans on board, Pluto had a strange and peculiar aspect in their cultural context. For many years, Pluto was considered a planet by the humans of Earth, and then it was no longer considered one upon redefining the scientific data on what constituted a planet and so on. For Vulcans, it would have been a done deal. New definition. Update records. But for humans, it had, Kastarak understood, become a shock, and something that infected the public consciousness for decades, even centuries later.

Kastarak remembered in Starfleet Academy, some human at one lecture, upon hearing the mentioning of Pluto, muttered loudly, Pluto is a real planet!.

And now, hear they were. Close enough to see the majestic mountain ranges of that white-and-brown-coloured Pluto.

Kastarak was waiting for the entire crew to gather. He had an important announcement for everyone. Only the department heads knew what the announcement would be, and Kastarak had to make it. Near half of the crew would go to Andromeda Station to be shuttled to their respective home planets, and the rest of them would go a little further into the Sol system, to the moon of Saturn known as Titan.

The entire crew had been told an hour ago that now was the time to meet for an important announcement in Shuttle Bay. After this announcement, there would be four hours before the Chernov would set sail again, six hours’ trip at impulse, to orbit around Titan.

Pawl came in quietly, and took his position next to the ensign at the shuttle bay console to give the officer there a small break before the others arrived. “Ensigh you are relieved please go get your belongings together while I take your post for now. Return to me when you are done with your break and packing.” Pawl said with a polite and calm smile. making the situation like it was nothing and routine and normal everyday occurrence. Pawl tapped a few keys on the console to sign in and deassign the other officer who was on duty. He pulled a small display window of engineering to keep an eye on what was going on there casually. He would have to get used to this shrunken staff so that he would be doing a lot more overtime and working full shifts by himself or with one junior officer with him. Pawl felt the presence of the Xo. stopped and tapped a few keys to place the station on standby as he looked at Kasarak for a long moment. Before he finally spoke. “Hello, Sir!” He spoke even though it felt wrong somehow.

Chris came in and nodded to everyone while waving his hand to state that they didn’t need to get up. Going across the bay to stand behind Kastarak and whispering. “This is your show XO. I’m only here to observe. I will not say a thing now answer any questions about this mission unless it’s crucial.” Then he winked his one good eye and smiled. “You got this and have been doing an excellent job so far!”. He went back to a corner and stood there looking at everyone everything.

Dawson came in to the shuttle bay and stood next to Kas, “Everything all set?” He asked, more for something to say than a real question. He of course knew everything was. Still, this was Kastarak’s first ship-wide address, and he figured that might be daunting. However, Kas was a Vulcan, Q reminded himself, and perhaps that made the task easier. He didn’t know, but he’d be there for whatever Kas needed, whether it was support from a friend or a Dept. Head.
