While Sara was in the mess hall, she was thinking to herself and was wondering if she was really fit for engineering. Although, she really want to be Chief Engineer of the ship again but she has a bad feeling about things. She wasn’t so sure if it was possible. Let alone, her performance of doing the level 1 diagnostic was a force of habit when she was chief engineer.

Lt. Lovejoy.

Pawl needed to get something to eat but he did not want to have any issues right now as he thought casually as he entered the mess hall he went straight to the food units. and he grabbed a card or two for his selections for him to eat. He decided on a Sloppy Joe and Tater tots along with a large chocolate milkshake. as he fed the cards into the machine to read. He felt a familiar presence of Sara nearby. He sighed hard not meaning to before grabbing his tray of food and drink and heading to a table but the only thing that was open was at her table. He calmly walked over to her table. “Hello, Sara Do you mind if I join you?” Pawl asked kindly to her. As he stood there calmly waiting for her reply.

“Yes Pawl. You may join. Also I uh, also wanted to apologize for running a level 1 diagnostic. It was a force of habit.” She said. She was sitting there just a little upset with herself.

Lt. J.G. Sara Lovejoy - Engineer
Pawl calmly took a seat as he did. “That is one of the things I wanted to talk to you about. but I believe you realized the error or mistake. ” Pawl said kindly to her. “The captain wanted me to reprimand you over this but I figured it was just a simple error. I figured a simple reminder to get approval before such thing by me or the captain or other command staff will be effective for approval.” Pawl (Paul) said with a smile. As he grabbed a bottle of ketchup and poured some don’t for his tater tots. “And I talked to the captain about you being restored to chief Engineer status. But I was shot down on that notion as he thought I was being cohered or manipulated. But I hope I straightened that notion out.” Pawl said calmly as he took a bit of tater tot.

She smiled slightly. “Hey it’s ok. If he thinks I’m not really ready to be chief engineer then I’m ok with not being it until he thinks I’m ready. Although I can tell there’s a but wanting to come within the sentence. Of me getting retrained to be a good engineer and to become the chief engineer again if I’m correct?” She wondered. “Besides your a good Chief Engineer anyways. Engineering couldn’t have asked for a much suitable person let alone man to do the job and it’s you.” She added.

Lt. Sara Lovejoy

“Thank you Sara for the kind words.” Pawl said softly to her. “Yes, he mentioned possible training or retraining before you will be considered for the chief engineer position again.” Pawl said quickly. “I am not sure on what happened for him to think the way he is about your situation but I am more than willing to help you through the situation with the training or retraining in engineering and anything else needed to help you show your worth to him again.” Pawl said as he started to eat his sloppy joe.

“I agree. Uh. I know it’s been hard for you and with me and my knowledge of the engine room, but with you the chief engineer. I think it’s best to retain me and train me on me things that has happened while I was gone.” She said with a smile.

Lieutenant Junior Grade Sara Lovejoy

“I believe you are right to keep you and train you.” Pawl said calmly. “I believe we both have to get used to how things are going to go for now. Me being in command and you back to the basics as it were.” He added casually. as he continued to eat his meal politely. “Maybe we all in engineering should go back to the basics and train and retrain ourselves in the proper use of all tools and equipment. Along with making sure permission is given to running diagnostics and making sure procedures are followed properly?” Pawl finished his rant.

“Yes I agree. Even though I hate the idea.” She said calmly.

“I believe this will be a great asset for all and not to cut corners.” Pawl said with a sigh. “Don’t get me wrong if there is a way to make things go easier and not overstep anyone I will consider the new shortcut with command too.”

“With all due respect. Engineering if your department. It’s your call. Unless the captain has suggested another thing to you about me that I’m unaware of.” She said.

Lt. Lovejoy Engineer

“Nothing that I can recall.” Pawl said calmly to her. as he finished off his milkshake.

“Hmm. Interesting. Did he say anything about an Assistant Chief Engineer?” She asked.

Lieutentant Junior Grade Sara Lovejoy.

“If I decided to take another course and want to add a new career path then I could possibly add you as assistant engineer but not full chief engineer until you go through training in all areas then we would have to talk to the captain together for possibly restoring you to chief status.” Pawl told her calmly to her.

“I understand.” She sighed heavily. Thinking to herself that maybe she isn’t really fit for it. But having the training will be best for her.

Engineer Lovejoy

PAwl felt a hard change in her. “I believe in you Sarah your destiny is clear.” noting her hesitation. He said with a smile. “Please believe me I know you can do this and do it believe in you with my entire being.” Pawl said with true sincerity. He hoped this would elevate her doubt or hesitation.

“Of course. Uh.* as she paused from saying anything. Then she continued, “When does training start?” She asked.

Lt. J.G. Lovejoy

“When you feel ready to do so Sara. I know you just returned to the ship and all if you want more time to get settled in I don’t have any issues with you having the time to do so.” Pawl said kindly to her.

“No Pawl. It’s okay. I need to do this retraining. How long do you think this’ll take?” She asked.

“honestly, I am not sure I guess it depends on you and how determined on or how dedicated on getting your training done.” pawl said calmly.
