Chris cave back into the conference room after getting Pawl set up in the captain’s chair and waited for the rest to meet him.

T’Aria nodded to Taggart and removed herself from the partition wall separating the bridge from the conference room, soon falling into step behind him. With nothing to relay from limited sensor data and the few reports since their departure, she quietly found her way to an empty seat to await the others.

Chris looked around the room acting confused and making it obvious to T’Aria. “T’Aria. Do you see that small black box behind the poor excuse of the coffee maker that they have here? You should go and check it out?” Chris was a lot of things but not a good actor.

T’Aria, who sat analysing recent astrometric scans until summoned by Taggart’s disoriented behaviour, immediately rose to attention. What use did he have for an obscure black box? Did it hold something vital to their mission? More importantly, would retrieving it relieve his distress? She glanced at the contraption he so humanly described as a ‘poor excuse for a coffeemaker’ and nodded.

Approaching, she soon located the box beside what resembled small vessels (“pods”, she heard them called) and turned to Taggart.

She delayed only a heartbeat or two before prying open the box to inspect its contents.
