Lieutentant Sakai would notice she had received a message from the captain on her terminal not too long after she had asked all the crew members to contact her.

To Lieutenant Akane Sakai, Counselor

I will not be contacting you to set up a routine psychological examination. As you will see from looking in my file, I will next be due for such an examination in four months. In the future, I expect you to only contact crew members who are due for evalutions to avoid unnecessarily deterring the crew from their work.

Akane gulped as she read the Captain’s message, it wasn’t really the first impression she had hoped to make on her new Captain. She sighed and spun round on her chair as she thought. It was time to do a bit of damage control she decided as she picked up a small box that was on her desk and started to make for the door but then thought better of it, perhaps a face to face meeting was not appropriate just yet and she went back to her desk and sat back down.

She opened the Captain’s message again and pressed reply.

Captain, I do apologise if my message was inappropriate, it is usually my custom when I have a new assignment to have a session with each crew member as I find it much more insightful and helpful than reading a formal report written by another counsellor who may have a completely different practice to myself. I apologise if this came across wrong and I will of course respect your wishes and withdraw my previous request. I do hope this incident does not colour your opinion of me and I look forward to working with you.

Akane sighed and put her head in her hands, this was not exactly the way she wanted to start her time on the outpost. She took a brief glance at the boxes under the blanket in the corner again before shaking her head and heading out of the door.
