CNS Office: Lt. Rhodes CSO
Duncan stood in a pose that many would call ‘at ease’ or a more relaxed version of the same, his hands behind his back and shoulders straight as he turned his head slightly and looked over the seating area that had been offered as he chose his place, then back to Chandel with an ever so slight smile at the edges of his mouth. He somehow made his stance all at once casual and formal. Approachable but not about to offer anything more than a nod in acknowledgment it seemed.

: : : : : : : : “Thank you Counselor” his clipped and formal English accent being very obvious. “Looking forward to meeting me? Would that be Professionally or me Specifically?” His question was asked as he turned for the couches, only now his hands coming to his sides while he took the few steps down and selected one of the chairs, not the couch, and came to a stop beside it looking back at Chandel with one hand on his selected seat, nodding and motioning with his other hand politely for the Counselor to take her seat before he would move to do the same.

: : : : : : : Chandel smiled softly with a smile that had some irony to it.”Both. I was fascinated while reading your bio about your diverse interests.” She said as she took a seat on the couch so that she was kitty corner to the chair where Rhodes would sit. “In your early training you went through Military school but have ended up in the Sciences. You also have kept up an interest in the martial arts and in sports. It is an uncommon mix for someone that has majored in the Sciences.” She looked at him curiously as she waited for him to get settled.

: : : : : : Duncan sat beside her, pulling his trousers slightly to avoid a mark at the knee and then crossing his leg as he reclined and got comfortable, although noticeably his back was still straight and his posture formal in a very subtle way. “Yes I did” he acknowledged, his own eyes a startling pale blue that looked at her clearly and without wavering. Duncan was confident, that much was evident, but he didn’t have the overbearing personality that so often came with it.

: : : : : : “Growing up I was expected to take on many interests, many hobbies to keep me busy and give me experience that would serve me well later” he explained, “military school provided a focus and personal management lesson as well as the standard physical requirements, but the mind is where the true expression of freedom and exploration lies” Duncan adjusted his cuffs slightly and looked up and Chandel again, “Science gives it’s lessons to everyone, military, medical or exploratory, it is the backbone if all we know and all we will discover, but the body needs more.” He smiled as he spoke, “My role in my family brings the expectation of a well Rounded and capable individual, hence the varied Interests, but I find them all physically relaxing as well, disciplined and an outlet to free the mind and relax. Did anything in particular catch your Interest Counselor?”

: : : : :
: : : : : Chandel listened fascinated.”Not in particular, just the unusual mix as I said. I usually find that more of an El-Aurian trait rather then human. Not to say, as you have shown, that it can’t be but that not many people choose to do so. They are generally more focused in one area. Have you found your work here on the station fulfilling?”

: : : :
: : : : He nodded curtly and smiled a little. “Yes indeed, this region has many planets and anomalies to be cataloged and recorded. My team is always busy and we have a large backlog of research to accomplish. New planets are being registered all the time with the access we now have to the old Romulan territories, and expeditions are common and often rewarding.” He spotted an offending piece of lint on his trouser leg and picked it off.

: : Chanel watched him quietly as he spoke, her deep dark eyes catching the mannerisms he used as he spoke. They actually were fairly minimal but she noted the picking off of the lint. This was a man who was very particular and paid attention to the smallest details.
: :
: : : : “That is partly why I maintain that array interests you found unusual” Duncan said, raising his eyes back up to her, “I sleep little, thanks to mild Insomnia, but I have supplemented that sleep with various forms of meditation and physical discipline to relax. I am able to work at full capacity for longer, and some of those interests allow me to relax almost as much as sleep. Many in my family were known for hard work on little sleep, and it appears that the trait has been passed down to myself and my sisters, one in particular.” Duncan looked at Chandel, his gaze was calm and steady, and not at all uncomfortable answering her questions. “Do you have any siblings at all?”

: : “I do not, I was an only child. This one sister, are you close?” She asked curiously as it seemed they might be since they shared similar traits.
: :
: : Counselor Chandel
:
: “With that one?” Duncan asked rhetorically, smiling as he spoke, “Not particularly. Oh we are as close as brothers and sisters would be but she is very much her own person. She runs the day to day operations of my families businesses while I am here in Starfleet. She has a very low opinion of Starfleet and in particular my being in it, she is a businesswoman first and foremost, and she is a businesswoman in my family. That in itself belies a reputation and form of attitude all of it’s own, and Bronwyn makes sure that she lives up to that expectation, no, exceeds it, enthusiastically. My youngest sister, Megan, however, is also a Chief Science Officer in Starfleet, she and I both followed the same path. Hers was slightly easier, not being the oldest child in the family she did not have the expectation of taking over the family empire to deal with before eloping with Starfleet like I did.”

Chandel’s head tipped as she considered him,”Does that bother you? That you did meet the expectations of your family?” She asked curiously.
