“I’m fine standing,” Ria replied meekly. In fact the idea of hoisting herself onto the biobed and also of sitting didn’t sound terribly appealing right now. As Brad scanned her, he would notice several things: the heels of her hands where slightly scratched and there was slight discolouration of bruises starting to show as well, in the same spot of an fracture from years ago, a hairline fracture was showing in her left wrist, some bruises start to show on her butt and trying to brace herself with her hands upon landing had also resulted in some tension and soreness in her arms, shoulders and upper back. As he scanned her, Ria waited anxiously with her head bowed, hoping it was nothing and that she wouldn’t get in trouble.

“Alright, well, it’s not terrible news,” Brad said once the scan finished. “Mostly bruising and some scratches, but you’ve also got a minor fracture in your wrist, and you’re going to want a massage after this for your upper body.”

Riani looked briefly up and nodded silently before averting her gaze again. While she was glad that she hadn’t injured herself much, she had hoped that she’d only bruised her hands a little and that was all. Could her start on her first posting, at least medical-wise, be any worse, she wondered. If only non of this would have any negative impact on her career. What if, between her anxiety and her clumsiness, she was deemed unfit for duty after all?

Brad grimaced as Riani’s self-esteem issues flared back up. The counseling team would have their hands full with her, he could tell.

“I’ll grab an osteoregenerator to take care of that fracture and we’ll get you on your way,” he said, gently patting her shoulder as he went to retrieve the medical implement in question, along with something for the bruising, though he felt that went without question for her at this point.

“Thank you, Sir,” Ria replied meekly. She carefully pulled up the sleeve of her uniform and when Dr. Walker returned, she stretched out her left arm so he could take of the fracture properly. After a couple of moments of hesitation she mused quietly, “I thought breaking my wrist again would hurt more. At least I remember it hurting much more when I broke it before.”

“Well, you didn’t actually break it,” Brad said, activating the osteoregenerator. “A small fracture like that, you might have gone weeks without noticing. But if it did actually break further down the line, it might have been messier.”

The regenerator beeped, indicating it was already done.
