Achilleas finally found his way to the new XO’s temp office. ‘Starbases are a lot harder to navigate than a ship.’ Was the thought in his mind when he stopped in front of the door and rang the chime.

“Come on in,” came the clear reply.

Dira was sitting at the desk and not for the first time since she had officially started as XO did she wish she had a slightly larger space where she could at least have a couple more comfortable chairs or a sofa. So many years of having her office be a place where people came to deal with uncomfortable things required the office itself to be comfortable. Her spartan space right now was livened up by a chartreuse plant with heart-shaped leaves on long stems. And that was all she had, but she didn’t expect to be here all that long.

The XO herself was a intensely thoughtful person, whose dark eyes watched the CSO (whom she only recognized because she had reviewed al the personnel files) as he entered. Dira gave him a smile and gestured to the chairs at her desk, her medium brown hand moving in a fluid motion. “Join me Lieutenant, won’t you?”
