“Different things. USS Veda needs a new chief. Old Galaxy class. So off I go.” He nodded to Robert. “So. Did you request a transfer, or are you just here on orders? This being Starfleet, anything could be accurate.”

“Oh, I requested it. I was been on the Calypso for a few years now, and after playing ‘Assistant Chief Engineer’ for a while I was ready for the next step.” That was all true, though it glossed over all of the less flattering details.

IC: “Though that was before I heard about… you know… the thing.”

“A lot happens on this ship. You’ll have to enlighten me as to what is now rumour.” Mark was testing Robert ever so slightly. If offered the chance, would he speak freely?

“Something about a ‘collapsing warp bubble’ that somehow smashed the ship into tiny pieces while it was trying to escape from… something. Which might have resulted in someone down here either being burned alive, having their entire leg amputated, or simply spraining their ankle. I dunno, those are the three different versions I’ve heard of that particular part of the story. I’m guessing it’s the latter because I would think they would have included some sort of note in a report somewhere about the former. Then again I haven’t actually seen much in the way of briefing material yet, so…”

Bob gave a shrug.

“I haven’t been around enough to hear any of the good rumors yet.”

Mark sighed. “Ensign M’Nalie Eshenti. Collapsed onto a fire and then fractured her leg such that it opened vital arteries. She lost the lower part of her leg. The full story of how we got there is that we fell into subspace, couldn’t support a warp field, so it collapsed, power failures, damage everywhere.”
