M’Nalie grinned as she took the chip, it was a very toothy grin and it had sent more then a few cadets at the academy into a near panic. “Permission to not return to my quarters sir?”, she asked flicking an ear. “It will be interesting to see how my clans training compares to this exercise.”, she rumbled. She had of course been training for a war her entire life. That her clan had actually been at war with most of Cait for over a thousand years meant everyone was trained starting from when they could walk. The war had of course not been actively on since the truce a decade after it started. But a truce did not mean peace anud her people took readiness seriously. She had been surprised to discover that nobody knew about the war off Cait and That even most Caitans assumed it was past history and not ongoing. But then neither side really wanted a actual fight so likely it was easy enough to forget about.
Ensign M’Nalie Eshenti. Engineer.
“Permission granted. And some advice. Use that anytime you need it. It’s going to take time for people to understand you and your culture. In the meantime, you have an outlet for your aggression. Dismissed.”
-Lt(j.g.) Mark Pierce, CE
- 2 Hours Later-
If Mark was honest, he didn’t like psychiatrists much more than M’Nalie. Nonetheless, he was ringing the door chime to Dr Darren’s office on M’Nalie’s behalf. He was a tough chief. But he looked out for his crew as much as he worked them.
-Lt(j.g.) Mark Pierce, CE
“Enter!” came a surprisingly soft voice from within the office. The door slid open to punctuate the invitation, revealing the business-like setting. Ana looked up and quickly placed the face as the Chief Engineer, although she hadn’t been the one to complete his last evaluation. “Hello, Lieutenant,” she greeted him, looking curiously at him as to why he was stopping by her office.
Darren, Psychiatrist
“Doctor.” Mark greeted her. “I’ll be brief, I’m sure you’re busy. I’ve met the surgeons. You did the boarding evaluation for an engineer, Ensign M’Nalie Eshenti. She reported to me before it was finalised and entered into the main computer. That is to say; her name was not flagged when we met. It was brought to my attention today that she has been serving in my department against psychiatric orders. On one occasion we definitely needed all hands on deck.” He referred to their recent subspace crisis. “Otherwise, that behaviour is unacceptable. And there is a citation on her disciplinary record to that effect. This morning she described your first encounter and I can certainly understand your apprehensions. Her culture can seem primitive, certainly hostile, and out of place among other Federation service members.”
“She’s good at her job. To the point that I need her cleared to serve. Which requires you deeming her at least sane enough to function.”
-Lt(j.g.) Mark Pierce, CE
Ana’s black eyes rested on Pierce as he spoke, her face displaying no reaction to his words. She paused for several moments as he finished pleading M’Nalie’s case. She had hoped to deposit the exhausting ensign on her superior officer, but he had left the ship and now she was the superior officer who was tasked with making such decisions. She caught her lip between her teeth and slowly gnawed on it.
“I will authorize her for duty, but she must undergo required anger management training. There is a holodeck program that should be adequate. Any further cases of hostility or open aggression, whether culturally appropriate or not, toward crew members will result in a recommendation that her commission in Starfleet be terminated. Is that all?”
Darren, CoP
“Lieutenant,” Mark said, switching from Doctor. “Ensign M’Nalie being under my command, I will agree with you absolutely. She will keep herself in line or she will remove herself from this vessel. I made this clear to her two hours ago. I gave her an old Marine hand-to-hand training program I had, for getting out her aggressions in her off time in a way that will not harm or threaten anyone. You have a problem with her conduct, come see me. We will either iron it out or drum her out of the fleet, as is appropriate. We each have our departments to run, but we’re in the same crew, let’s not make it unnecessarily difficult.”
-Lt(j.g.) Mark Pierce, CE
Ana didn’t react to Pierce’s use of her Starfleet rank, although her eyes darkened slightly in annoyance at the rest of his words. “I’m unable to provide information regarding my work with crew to their superiors unless it impacts their own safety or the safety of those around them,” she replied, her tone bordering on harshness, although she intended to just give him a reminder. “My goal is not to drum anyone out of the fleet,” she continued, her voice breaking slightly as though she was more insulted than anything else. “I have a duty to keep the crew safe.”
