Anastasia Darren was born in 2365 on Betazed. The only child of her Betazoid mother and Human father, she had a happy, pleasant childhood despite the Dominion occupation of her home planet when she was ten years old. While she never left Betazed as a child, the Starfleet presence at the end of the Dominion occupation intrigued her and she chose to enter Starfleet Academy. She tracked into Medical and completed the Academy, medical school, and a residency in psychiatry, where she conducted research on the neurobiological aftereffects war trauma on adult relationships. While she is a fully qualified counselor, as an empath, she frequently found the actual practice of her profession to be emotionally overwhelming. Her research finally complete, she was assigned to the U.S.S. Ogawa for her first shipboard, clinical position. She was extremely surprised to be promoted to Chief of Psychiatry following a rocky, but successful start to her clinical career.

Ana is a shy introvert, much preferring the solitude of books to interactions with others. Her career frequently leaves her worn out and mentally exhausted and she has only dated infrequently. She prefers to quietly observe and to listen.
