<snip>OOC: My apologies. I would very much like to continue.
IC: Commander Brooks tried to hide her smile and suppress a chuckle. “Um, correct me if I am wrong, Ensign, but you ARE an officer. A little green, and slightly nervous, but still an officer.” She looked at him with sympathy. “Actually I can relate quite a bit. This is my first command role and I haven’t been on very long.” She dropped her eyes and glanced around suspiciously and playfully. In a whisper she asked, “Can I let you in on a little secret?”
-Lt. Cmdr. Brooks, XO
Harry chuckled nervously as he shifted in his seat. “Of course ma’am…” he replied quietly, his anxiety through the roof as he talked to Brooks.
Cmdr. Brooks’ eyes twinkled as a small smile played on her lips. “I am nervous a lot of times, as well,” she paused, not sure if it was entirely appropriate to be telling a junior officer about her own self-doubt, but it felt nice to get it off her chest and if it also helped this young ensign, then it would be well worth it. “The trick is, even when you are nervous, just pretend you aren’t.” She made it sound simple. Of course it was more complex than that. “It’s the nature of exploration that we trek into the unknown. We rely on our training and have faith in those who trained you. If you put your faith their, instead of yourself, then it is much easier to believe in your own capabilities, and always, always, expect the unexpected.”
OOC: Hope you don’t mind me jumping in here!
OOC: Not at all!

It was at that moment James stormed into the lounge. His day had been awful and he needed a drink to calm his already bad mood. He’d had a more grumpy disposition of late, since the ‘incident’ really and today had been one thing after another.
“Bloody surgeons!” He huffed a little louder than he had meant to, he hated surgeons, and stormed over to the replicator red faced and angry. He ordered a double whiskey straight and looked around for an empty table.Ens James McNair, Trauma and Emergency Medicine
Bump
Harry jumped at the loud interruption and frantically stood ridgedly to attention, not really sure what else to do.
Ensign Goodwin (Sci)
James looked taken aback by the man suddenly standing to attention. It interrupted his thoughts and burst the bubble that he was in briefly. He walked over to Harry with his drink in his left hand and tried to suppress a smirk at the man’s response to James’ outburst. He looked briefly at the man’s pip indicating that he was an Ensign.
“You don’t need to stand to attention Ensign. I’m James but everyone calls me Jim. I’m sorry if I startled you. It has been an…interesting day.McNair (Trauma/Emergency med)
Harry nodded as he rubbed his still sore arm. “It’s ok, it’s been an interesting day for me too…” he replied quietly. “Would you like to join us…I mean if that’s alright with you ma’am?” he asked Brooks, hoping that he would have someone else at the table to negotiate the small talk that was normally a foreign language to Harry.
Ensign Goodwin (Sci)
“Of course, by all means. There’s plenty of room.” Commander Brooks hadn’t had much time to socialize with much of the crew, other than the captain, and of course the department heads. She gestured to the empty chair. “Tell me, what’s got everyone so wound up today?”
James nodded and smiled weakly at Harry and then turned to the Commander.
“If I’m intruding on anything ma’am I can find another table…” He added to Harry’s question. He had hoped for some company but would sit by himself if he needed to.McNair (Trauma/Emergency Med)
Brooks wondered what exactly McNair meant by that. Obviously she found Ensign Goodwin somewhat charming and cute in a clumsy way, but she didn’t think she was being that obvious in her attraction. “Don’t be silly. This is an officer’s lounge and their is absolutely no intrusion on your part.”
M’Nalie for all she was over seven feet tall and had bumped into a security officer seemingly accidentally but with some obvious mirth after she had continued past without a word would appear at the table and move a chair out of the way to kneel as she placed her tray on the table. Standard Starfleet chairs were to small for the big feline.
“M’Nalie. Engineering”, she rumbled to the other occupants.Ensign M’Nalie Eshenti. Engineer.
“Brooks, Executive Officer,” she replied. Matching the Ensign’s tone and manner. She had previously interacted with Caitains before of course, but she didn’t remember ever seeing one so… large. “Please… join us,” she said, somewhat ironically. There was certainly a motley crew forming at this table. She wondered what the captain would say if she were to see her first officer sitting at a table with three ensigns. Actually, the captain wouldn’t give it a second thought. The captain and Commander Brooks had bonded immediately upon Amari’s arrival, and they trusted each other implicitly.
James raised a curious eyebrow as the massive form of Ensign M’Nalie joined the table. He had never see Caitian as large as her. James turned his attention briefly to Harry, knowing how he reacted to his entrance he was slightly concerned at how he would react to this massive new arrival.
“Doctor James. You can call me Jim. Pleasure to meet you.” He replied forgetting briefly the terrible day he’d had.McNair (Trauma/Emergency Med)
Commander Brooks waved her hand and caught the eye of a nearby member of the wait staff. She didn’t need to voice the order, just gestured with her eyebrows arched and the with a wave to her companions. The waiter disappeared behind the bar for a moment. A few minutes later she appeared at the table with four Saurian Brandies. She gave one to each ensign and then to the XO herself. “Thank you,” Amari said to the young waiter. “A toast,” she said as she raised her glass in the air and waited for the others to join her. “To the beginning of a grand new adventure, and to many, many more ‘interesting’ days,” she said, referencing the adjective that had been used so frequently this evening.
