Ana took a moment to delight in the fantasy where Goodwin did depart, leaving her to chew through the latest research out of Starfleet Medical. Unfortunately, that wasn’t going to happen and she needed to complete this evaluation. “No, no, it’s fine, stay,” she murmured at Goodwin, just audible enough for him to hear. Indicating the chairs in front of her desk, she requested, “take a seat, please. Would you like a lollipop?”

Lt Darren, Psychiatrist

Harry was a little surprised at the question as he awkwardly perched on the edge of the seat but he didn’t want to offend. “Um....ok?” he replied as he shrugged his shoulders. She didn’t seem that pleased that he was there which he secretly hoped meant it would be short and sweet. “I’m Harry…Harry Goodwin?” he offered as he shifted awkwardly in his seat.

Ensign Goodwin (Sci)

“What color do you want?” Ana questioned as she indicated the selection available, tucking a loose piece of hair behind her ear as she studied the ensign in front of her. “I’m Doctor Darren,” she added, feeling obligated to return the introductory statement.

Lt Darren, Psychiatrist

Harry peered into the jar, wondering what Dr Darren would make of his choice but he instinctively reached for a red one and plucked it out of the jar. “Was that right?” he asked nervously, hoping he hadn’t picked out a colour that meant he was stark raving mad.

Ensign Goodwin (Sci)

Ana looked briefly confused by his question. “Do you like red?” she asked, finally, picking a red one out for herself and pushing the sweet confection through the plastic wrapping around it in one smooth move.

Lt Darren, Psychiatrist

Harry blinked a couple of times as he wondered what the right answer was. “Um…yes?” he offered as he shrugged his shoulders. “Is that bad?” he ventured.

Ensign Goodwin (Sci)

“I don’t know,” Ana responded simply. “Red is associated with war and strength and power,” she observed, her voice taking an analytical tone as though she was reading from a textbook. “Do you enjoy war and strength and power?” she queried the ensign in front of her, black eyes focusing intently on him. From anyone else, it might have seemed to be a joke of a question or perhaps one to lighten the mood, but the young doctor seemed to be entirely serious as to her question of Goodwin.

Harry gulped and shook his head, contemplating putting the lollipop back and picking another colour. “I uh…no, not really…not at all in fact…I just like the taste…” he trailed off as he felt beads of sweat forming on his forehead. “Shall I pick again?” he asked earnestly.
