Gesturing to the biobed that she had just vacated, Jessica’s green eyes danced as she repeated his earlier statement, “up you go!” After a firm pat on the now vacant bed, she fetched a medical tricorder and began some basic scans to check on Walker’s visual acuity.

With a grin, Brad jumped up onto the bed. The scans showed a slight decrease in vision in both eyes, 20/25 in the right and 20/30 in the left, but nothing serious. No cataracts or retinopathy.

Jessica studied the readings carefully and then looked at Walker, a slightly mournful look on her face, although a smirk crept around the edges of her lips. “Well, Doctor, I’m afraid I have to diagnose you with getting older,” she commented and then gave up the pretense of serious doctoring with a giggle. She turned the tricorder to show him the results of her scans. “I’d give you a treatment plan or an option of waiting and monitoring, but I think you know all of the options.” She added a wink to her light-hearted statement and then returned the tricorder to its correct location in Sickbay. Returning her attention to Walker, a slightly flirtatious hint made its way into her smile as she questioned, “so do I pass? Will you keep me?”

“With flying colors… The ones I can still see, at any rate,” Brad joked back. “Yes, I think you’ll do great, especially if you’re as good with the kids as you are with my aging bones.”
