<snip>Brad nodded, and returned his attention to the machinery itself that had ended up embedded in Ensign “Shredded” Hart. Not the best time for a bad joke, but at least he hadn’t said it out loud…
Now, to see if he’d picked up anything from his engineer brother…
OOC: James, I’ll make a separate thread for us.

Lt. Cmdr. Dr. Brad Walker
Chief of StaffOddly, there was no other DNA present. It was like nothing with DNA had touched the tool, even though the method of entry said otherwise.
~Mischief Maker
“Bloody marvelous,” Brad told the air, before closing the tricorder and crouching down next to the body to investigate the coil with his eyes, looking first at the end not embedded in a man’s chest.
Was it broken, and if so in what fashion?
Lt. Cmdr. Dr. Brad Walker
Chief of StaffThe tool was intact and showed no signs of damage.
~Mischief Maker
“Hmm,” Brad said aloud. “Now how does one go about hovering a piece of machinery designed to support an entire section of duranium alloy hull in midair at precisely the height needed to puncture a man’s heart, then shift it as he falls, doing further damage, without leaving a trace, and in the space of less than 10 seconds…”
He scanned it for any residual indication of having recently been transported.
Lt. Cmdr. Dr. Brad Walker
Chief of StaffOOC: Just so there is no confusion, the brace coil I’m referencing was shown in the TNG episode phantasms. It basically looks like a squiggly knife about 20 centimetres long. Ref: https://memory-alpha.fandom.com/wiki/Phantasms_(episode)?file=Troi_knife.jpg
OOC: Ah, alright. I was picturing something much bigger.
IC:
There was no sign of being transported, but the what was curious was that while there was blood on Hart, there was none underneath. None of the pooling that one might expect from a stab wound through the chest. The brace coil had effectively blocked some of the blood from escaping the top of the wound, but where was the rest?~Mischief Maker
IC: ‘Curiouser and curiouser,’ Brad thought.
No signs of transportation, yet the body clearly hadn’t started here. Then there was the strange way the unfamiliar woman was acting, calling Hart a different name…
It was crazy, but everything about this situation looked crazy.
He pulled out his tricorder again and scanned Hart’s body looking for signs it came from a different reality.
Lt. Cmdr. Dr. Brad Walker
Chief of StaffHart read as a Human male as expected, and while they couldn’t examine and compare his quantum signature here in the Lounge to confirm he belonged to their reality, further examination revealed a trace of photons and tetryon particles on spots on the body and the brace coil, as if Hart had come into contact with something.
~Mischief Maker
Brad muttered a curse under his breath. Time and relative dimensional shenanigans were the worst sort of shenanigans a starship could run into. Especially when murder was involved.
He called for a gurney to take the body down to the morgue. It looked like he’d need the super-sensitive equipment for this one.
