The welcome female presence made Jessica’s face brighten even more, even though she had identified the disheveled woman as the CO of the ship. She’d taken the time on her shuttle ride to match names and faces for all of the senior staff after her experience on her last posting. She giggled lightly at the thought and then quickly returned her attention to see that the CO’s needs were taken care of, even if she hadn’t officially reported for duty yet.

Dr Jarvis turned and looked at their overlord, a wicked grin spreading from ear to ear. “Why, Captain,” he said in an oily tone, “have you come to do our new colleagues boarding evaluation yourself?” He then took in her dishevelled appearance and the awkward position of her right arm and the various streaks of crimson on her torn clothing. “Or would you like one of your ‘vultures’ to look at those wounds for you?”

Looking at Jessica Willow raised an eyebrow, she didn’t know the woman in teal but had heard the introduction, “Doctor Lemann, welcome. Please feel free to ignore Doctor Marshall and report directly to Doctor Walker.” He indicated Brad with a nod of her head. She then looked at the Chief of staff and gave the sort of lopsided grin that came with familiarity with someone, “I had a bit of a fall while mountain climbing on the holodeck and seem to have misplaced my dermal regenerator…mind if I borrow?” She asked with the air of asking for a cup of sugar.

“Yeah, help yourself,” Brad said. “You know where they’re kept. Grab a nurse to help you if you need it, I’ll be busy with the MDs for the foreseeable future.”

With a great full dip of her head she went to the nearest trolley and began a quick search.

Jessica smiled winningly at Taylor and nodded an affirmation. “Yes, I’m Doctor Lemann,” she confirmed. “I was just transferred to the Ogawa as one of your family medicine doctors. I’d be happy to help as well if your vultures just won’t cut it.” She winked at the CO and gave an amused grin at Jarvis, copying his use of the CO’s phrase with glee.

“Thanks but I got this,” She smiled back.

Dr Jarvis then turned to look at Dr Walker, “tell me, Commander, is it now sickbay policy to hand out medical implements to a patient who has suffered several lacerations, what is potentially a fracture to their right arm and may very well have some level of concussion? Not to mention the potential for internal bleeding.”

“See what I mean about hoping someone’s dying?” Drake asked.

It wasn’t professional to laugh. It wasn’t professional to laugh Willow thought as she turned her back and tried to stop her shoulders shaking, Drake was quick witted she had to hand that to him. The gifted young surgeon had Jarvis’s number that was for sure. She listened to Brad get his ducklings in a line.

“When that patient is a medical professional in her own right, who’s more than qualified to perform a self-assessment of her injuries and most importantly isn’t one step away from the brig for insubordination, yes,” he said.

“Now, I’m going to try and make a better introduction to this department than the pair of you have to Dr. Lemann, and then I’ll handle her physical myself. Dr. Marshall, you’re going to check conditions in Primary Sickbay for the next three hours until and unless I need you for an emergency.

Dr. Jarvis, you’re going to report to your quarters and not come back here for 24 hours unless you or the entire rest of the crew are dying. While the both of you are out, I expect you to review both the chain of command, and the code of conduct, because neither of you are following either of them to an acceptable level.”

Dr J. Jarvis M.D

Drake stood to attention and saluted before walking to the exit. If they didn’t need him, he would’ve been thrown out of Starfleet years ago.

-Dr Drake Marshall

Dr Jarvis snorted at the scathing remarks made by the chief of staff as he attempted to send Dr Marshall and himself to bed without any supper. Unfortunately, there was little he could do about it, lest he want to find himself in the brig. The joys of working in a military-style environment. Before he made his leave he turned to Dr Lemann, “as you can see, doctor, medical decisions on this vessel are made not by those most qualified to make them, but by those with the most pips on their collar.”

“Congratulations, you just booked yourself and Dr. Marshall an appointment at 1400 tomorrow in my office!” Brad said, temper escaping slightly but not enough to issue a conflicting order: the specified time was just after Jarvis’ 24 hour banishment would end.

He turned to leave. Walking passed the Captain he covertly removed a tricorder attachment from his pocket and gave her a quick scan; not breaking stride. He might not be able to treat her injuries, but at least he would be able to make an assessment of them should he later require that information.

Jasper’s aim was good. The tricorder managed one full sweep and would give him willows vitals and a list of her injuries if and when he decided to look at them.

Catching up to Dr Marshall he spoke in a low voice so that only he would here, “tell me, Dr Marshall, what are your thoughts on mutiny?”

Dr J. Jarvis M.D

“I have thought about replicating some pips and declaring a new order. But the whole jail time thing puts me off that. I doubt Lt Vanhall and the security brigade would agree with such choices.”

-Dr Drake Marshall

Watching Dr. Walker shoo off the various physicians left Jessica struggling to catch her breath as she held back her laughter. She bent over for a moment to collect herself and sort out her breathing and then returned her attention to the Chief of Staff, her features adopting somewhat of a straight face.

“Well, Doctor, thank you for saving me, although I was about to ask which one is single and go from there,” she responded with a smirk and then turned her attention to Willow. “Are you all right, ma’am?” she asked, caring and seriousness streaking into the voice that had been so playful moments before. The CO may be a doctor as well but she was clearly also in need of a doctor, whether that might be her own doctoring or those around her.

Willow watched the pair go and tutted shaking her head sadly at Brad. “You know I remember you being much more authoritative.” She gave him a cheeky grin and then turned it to a sheepish one as she surveyed Jessica. “Yes I’m just embarrassed. I’ve done that climb a million times and then today, one loose rock and boom.”

“I’ve been working on my diplomacy,” Brad said. “Don’t worry, you’ll get a recording when I do go off on Drs. Statler and Waldorf.”

At that moment the doors slid open and the young XO entered the room. Amari was a slender woman with a kind face. Her bright smile stood in contrast to her mocha skin and her hair was pulled back into a chocolate puff that sat neatly on top of her head. Her eyes had that unique feature of sparkling even when the light was dim. She rushed in. “Doctor Lemann,” she recognized the woman from her personnel file, “I was wondering if you would have a moment to discuss my daughter and schedule a checkup?” She then noticed the captain… who was injured. “What the hell happened to you?” she asked, totally forgetting conduct protocols. “The captain is injured and no one thinks to notify the first officer?” She looked around for the responsible party.

-Lt. Cmdr. Dr. Amari Brooks, XO

oh great Willow thought seeing Brooks. She gave a guilty smile and waved the hand with the instrument she was using on her cut at the XO in a ‘oops busted’ sort of way.

Well, this is becoming a party, Jessica thought to herself as a woman she identified as the XO of the ship made her way into Sickbay as well. She found herself momentarily entranced by the woman’s sparkling eyes and met them for a few moments with her own set, grinning. “I’d love to discuss your daughter, Commander, and I’d be happy to take her own as a patient,” she quickly replied, excitement at her work filling her voice. Resting a hand on an injured part of the CO’s shoulder, she kept her grin on her face as she responded, “I don’t think we’d quite gotten to the notification stage yet.” Her voice was just a slight bit firmer in defense of the woman who wasn’t precisely her patient yet. A nagging thought that she’d yet to actually report for duty entered her brain, but she dug her heels in and looked expectantly at Willow to see whether she was going to handle her treatment herself or needed any assistance.

Lieut (j.g.) Lemann

“True, Commander. She’s only been here a minute.”

Reaching around Willow started treating the wound on her leg then gave a grimace of pain and sighing sat straight again. Offering the device between Jessica, Brad and Amari. “Someone get that for me.”

Willow Taylor
CO

Jessica’s hand reached out to snap up the device before either of the others could react and she squatted down to carefully treat Taylor’s leg. A few moments later, she was stretching back up to her full height and leaning back slightly, studying her handiwork and then the CO. “How does it feel now, ma’am?” she asked politely, tilting her head to the side to study her new CO.
