Cai watched him, taking the glass of water he scowled. “I don’t hate everyone.” He muttered under his breath and took a sip of the water, sullenly.
Just then, Melaia and Jonathan entered the med bay with the twins in tow and Mel looking like she was trying her best to hide her pain. Quickly she surveyed the the place and knew that her injury was minor and low priority, so she simply moved over to the waiting area. “You can leave the kids here and go. I know they probably need you,” she told Jonathan.

An NE approached Mel with a PaDD in hand, “I’m NE Nurse Egairt . Please can you tell me the nature of your injury? Is it yourself or the children?” She looked at Jonathan uncertainty in her tone as she did so.
Cai
Drake walked up beside Nurse Egairt. “What do you have?”

It’s me,” Melaia said. “The kids seem fine, but Jonathan needs to get to his station and so they are with me. ” She tentatively lifted her right arm and winced. “Fell on it hard when the ship shook. I was holding Julia at the time and turned my body so I didn’t land on her. I did however land hard on my side. Ten credits says it’s a fracture,” she said with a somewhat amused grin. Meanwhile, her left hand was stroking the top of one of the baby’s heads.

The nurse smiled, “well that’s lucky that you didn’t land on her. After all it was a bit of a big shake.” She said, her tone changing to the same one adults everywhere used when speaking to babies. “Yes it was…a bit of a big shakes uhhu.” She cooed. She then seemed to realise that Drake was there and turned pink.
“Uh I have a biobed free in three minutes or a basic treatment station now if you’d like to take this Doctor Marshall…”
NE Nurse
“Take her to basic treatment. Keep an ear out for news out of the surgical suite.”
Melaia looked to Jon as they moved over to a biobed. The twins were being watched and she was comfortable with that. Staying for a moment or do you need to leave right now? she asked her husband telepathically. She didn’t need him to stay. He’s had her fair share of bumps and bruises over the years and this was nothing to worry about. What she did worry about was any anxiety the twins might feel if they weren’t with their parents after such a scary few moments.
Drake walked over with a tricorder in one hand, calibrating it with the other. “So, you were holding your child when the ship lurched, you fell and took the force in an odd way so you could protect the child, correct?” Drake asked before starting to scan Melaia. Now what did you break? he thought. “Nurse. Did you get a name and medical file on intake?”
-Dr Drake Marshall
“Correct. And I’m Melaia Reez, but I go by Mel,” she said with a pained smile. It wasn’t a big ship and everyone quickly knew everyone, but she was a civilian now and only just recently started working in the labs. It would take a bit before people knew who she was and as more than the COP’s wife.
The scan would show she had a spiral fracture in her radius towards her elbow, and also a distal radius fracture (fractured wrist). Additionally, a fair bit of the soft tissues around those fractures were also damaged. In fact, the bruising was becoming predominant already and he’d have to be mindful of possible nerve damage in her wrist. It was likely Melaia was in a fair bit of pain and hiding it well. Then again, her record would show she was Betazoid and telepathic and her twins were in proximity to her and likely receptive to whatever she was feeling.
Tilting her head, she saw the Captain’s brother. “Hey Cai, you okay?” she called over. They had only met briefly, but he knew who she was since she was Willow’s friend. Whether he cared or not, well, that was another matter.

Drake chuckled. “Good luck getting a response out of him. He’s a sullen, queasy, teenager.”
“Ok. What I’m going to do is fairly simple. I’m going to give you a painkiller, then set the bones with this.” He held up a bone knitter. “Then I’m going to do a soft tissue scan. It’s already clear that things are damaged and inflamed, but I need to see if there’s any nervous damage. Depending on the results of the scan, we’ll decide how to proceed.” He administered a painkiller. So gently, the hypospray was barely noticeable.
“It’s probably still going to feel strange, given the nature of the fractures.” And with that, Drake started rebuilding Melaia’s wrist and arm.
