The sensation of falling registered in her mind a split second before she realized what was happening. Twisting her body, she cushioned the baby in her arms and landed hard on her side. Pain lanced through her arm, but the cry that erupted out of Sabin was reassuring. Mel could also hear Julia crying, and that too was reassuring. She reached out her mind to her daughter and sent calming thoughts so that Julia knew she was still there. I’m coming baby, she said as she punched herself into a sitting position with one arm. Melaia laid Sabin in her lap and quickly looked him over, gently squeezing along his arms and legs to make sure nothing was injured. The boy quietened a little bit but was still crying, so she rocked him gently. Where was her husband?

Jon?! Are you okay? Is Julia okay? They had been getting the twins ready for bed and she was about to settle Sabin in after he got their daughter settled. She was still sitting in the middle of their living room floor.

Jonathan has been in the bathroom finishing up the bath he has been giving Julia when the lurching has happened. Water seemed to fly everywhere as he had held onto his daughter to make sure she didn’t go anywhere. He was soaking wet yet found his daughter to be amused by it. From her perspective it seemed more of a game that something serious until the lights dimmed.

Red alert alarms could scare anyone, but a child even more so as he pulled her out of the tub as he grabbed her towel to comfort her, feeling that familiar tug in his mind as Mel reached out.

We are fine, was finishing her bath he reached back out softly to her as he came out soaked as much as his baby girl as he came into the living area.

The emergency lighting was dim but cast enough light to see over the red alert flashing that made her mind go on overdrive. Had the ship run into something? She almost tapped her combadge to call the bridge but then remembered it wasn’t her ship and it wasn’t her call to make. A sobering thought, but at the same time easier given the baby in her arms.

Speaking of which, her right arm still hurt quite a bit and she had to focus extra hard on soothing Sabin to keep the pain from upsetting him. Ever since their gastropod friends made her aware of the twins sensitivity to high emotions, she’d tried hard to filter hers as much as possible.

“It’ll be okay little guy.” Jonathan said soothingly as he sat down next to the pair looming them both over. It was clear Jonathan was trying to determine if they were truly okay.

She hadn’t moved Sabin from her lap and looked up at Jon with pain in her eyes. “I’ve hurt my arm. I know you need to get to the bridge, but people can help me with the twins in Sickbay. I just need help getting there,” Mel said as she shifted Sabin to the floor so she could get up without risking losing her balance.

“Okay love, lets get you there first I an escort you… we got this baby don’t worry.” Jonathan said softly as he helped her juggling the Julia in hand as he gave Mel his free one.

“We can go now and I will make sure everything is okay… then I can head up and see what is going on.”

With her good arm, Mel got to her feet and then crouched to scoop Sabin as carefully as she could. She winced. It was definitely more than a sprain. Turning her body, she offered their son to Jon. “Okay, let’s go.”
