Looking at his reflection in the mirror, the grin on Ally’s face spread across her face and her eyes seemed to light up. “You mean permanent bunking over. Like my mail comes to your place and when my mom calls you have to do the wave thing over your head when she calls out your name proper move in,” Ally tilted her head so that it rested on his. She never took her eyes off his nor lost the look of happy excitement on her face.
“That’s exactly the kind of ‘move in’ I’m meaning,” he said to her, still not letting her go but making sure his lips caressed her cheek in between his sentences. “The kind where I have to explain to my Mother why I never told her my girlfriend was living with me now while behind her on the comm my Dad gives me winks and thumbs ups. The type where after we go out on a date night, we don’t ask ‘who’s place’ but I tell you ‘climb on my back, we’re going home’.” Now he stopped looking at her in the mirror, and instead straightened and with his hands moving to her waist turned her to face him. Reaching up again, he brushed a hair from her face and softly kissed her forehead. “What say you?”
“I accept but on one condition,” she held her breath for a second. The next part was big. Maybe not to most but to her it was monumental. She didn’t think he would say no but his answer would ultimately change the course of their relationship. She was spoiled at times and wanted what she wanted when she wanted it. Rico gave in always to her wants and needs until the few times he didn’t. Those times she gave in without a second word because for him to say no it had to be important to him. Allison Scott was an old fashioned girl at heart. She was simple. She wanted to help people in the galaxy and have a family she could love and take care of. Ally wanted to have dinner every night followed by homework, have great makeup sex, and send out corny Christmas cards in matching sweaters from Mr. and Mrs. blank. The next question would determine if Rico’s name would fill in the spot saying Happy Holidays from the ______
“Spend Christmas with me and my family?”

Rico’s smile widened immediately and he brushed another hair from her face. In the time that they had been together on the Ogawa, since their first day, Rico had never met Ally’s family nor she his. Of course, they had both spoken to each other’s parents, often when special dates had come around and they had been there when the other had called, but neither had been home since their beginning. To Rico, moving in was a big step in their relationship, and meeting the parents in person was bigger. That Ally had moved straight to one-up his desire for her to be with him spoke volumes about how much she loved him, and his pause wasn’t to choose, but to let his smile and the love he had for her show.
“Yes, I would love to spend Christmas with you and your family,” Rico told her and pulled her tight to him, his arms moving around her back and shoulders in an all-encompassing hug, “And then you can spend Boxing Day with me and mine. I guess we are going to have to start shopping for gifts huh.”

The next day
===========Ally stood at the door at 0530 hours with her first box. This would not be too abnormal. Rico was up earlier than most as the security chief. He showed up for PT even when it wasn’t his rotation. He showed up early to ensure the duty roster was in place. He got up early to make sure the coffee was on first thing in the morning. This morning he would be just exiting the shower getting ready for work. Yesterday had been insanely busy. After the proposal to become official roommates, the search for the nail file ended. Instead, they spent the day putting things in boxes at Ally’s place and Allison Scott had a lot of things. They had taken breaks which at times caused some of the boxes to be needed to be repacked. Five hours later, Ally had her entire quarters ready to move into Rico’s. They would have done it then but she had duty. The plan was to move in today after work. With Ally, however, nothing ever went according to plan.
The door chimed once then twice as Ally used her elbow to whack at the console. She shifted the box using one knee to hoist it up further in her arms. “Come on Rico,” Ally half grumbled half excitedly called out in the hall as she waited. Rico was probably in the shower at this time of the morning but she hoped not. When either of them worked the graveyard shift, the person not on duty had breakfast prepared so that the 30-minute window they passed like two ships in the night was spent to end the one person’s day and start the other’s with a smile. Rico had to be up so she hit the chime again with her elbow and waited patiently.

Rico was indeed out of the shower, and not only that but he was rushing slightly. The exertions of packing the night before and making sure all the boxes were ready to move had meant a late night, more so because several boxes had to be rearranged. Breakfast on the table and Allys comfy clothes hung over a char so she could get out of her uniform and relax meant that Rico only had time to get half dressed himself. Wearing only his trousers, and with hair still messy, he had prepared his room for her to walk in from work. Of course, her enthusiastic door chime rings, while most likely seeming eternity for his highly active girlfriend had in fact been no more than 9 seconds in ‘real life’.
“Hold on, it’s like you live here or something!” Rico called out as he wiped his hands on a kitchen towel and walked to the door, slinging it casually over his shoulder and pressing control to open the door.
“I do,” she laughed from the other side of the door, “so if you have another woman in there tell her I have no problem injecting her with Klingon Herpes,” she teased. Ally knew there was no one on the other side of the door and it there was so be it. Rico was hers above all else. He might give a wink or a smile here or there but he would always arrive and leave with her on his arm. Except for that one time at the Christmas party last year where they were both so drunk he bridal carried her out of the party. This would have been so romantic if Ally wasn’t passed out half drooling in his arms and Rico hadn’t managed to bounce her head off every doorway entered. Still, it was moments that which showed the fortitude in the couple. They didn’t need to always be hand in hand or horizontal to show the world they were devoted to each other. Ally didn’t have to do the hair flipping, eye batting, lip biting antics of a girl in love. Rico didn’t have to run around bashing every head or saying something to Ally every moment that confessed his undying love for her or caused him to return home and take a cold shower. They could be just Ally and Rico which was why she was on the other side of the door carrying a heavy box and he was doing god knows what on the other side.
Bare chested he stood in the door and looked at his pint girlfriend. “Do you wanna hand with that?” He asked her and reached to take the box. “You know you’re not supposed to bring work home right. There isn’t another kid in here is there?”
Lt Vanhall, CoS
“Yes, yes and maybe,” she answered each question in order. Ally handed him the heavy box not noticing at first he was only half dressed. It was only when she saw the box in his arms that it was apparent he was not wearing a shirt. Ally did not come in however as he took the box from her and carried it into the room. Instead, she stood at the door as if needing an engraved invitation to enter. She leaned against the door jamb outside the room crossing one foot over the other. It was the casual pose of someone at ease but waiting for something to happen.

Placing the box down, Rico turned and saw Ally waiting for something outside the door. “Oh! Oh I get it gorgeous.” He said and took a few steps towards her, then paused again and put his hands on his hips and grinned.
“You live here now you know. It’s okay to fart in here, you don’t have to go outside to do it. I’ve heard you pop enough when you sleep anyway.” They had had Indian for dinner the night before, and they way Rico made it, he knew his high energy girlfriend was rocket powered the next day so he grinned.
Enjoying his tease, he walked the next few steps to her and lifted her chin up to him, then kissed her gently. “You didn’t think I knew what you wanted, I knew, you’re just lighter without that box.” His eyes looked down into hers a moment, and he brushed her cheek with his thumb. Not waiting for a reply he bent slightly, his right hand dropping down behind her knees and sweeping her sideways, his left hand under her shoulders as he picked her up in the classic threshold pose.
Just then two crewmembers turned the corner and approached, seeing the two standing in the hallway. Rico glanced at Ally, then at them and grinned. Well, bared his teeth would be more appropriate. “Mine, you can’t have her.” He said simply. Then turned and made to walk into the room.
Unfortunately, with his attention on Ally and the crew he was teasing, he didn’t notice Ally was wider than the door to his quarters. It wasn’t hard, but Allys head bumped against the frame lightly. “Oh crud,” Rico said and as the door slid shut behind him, just lifted her higher so his lips found the side of her temple. “Welcome home baby. I’ve missed you, your back where you belong now, with me.”
