=/\= Bridge to Captain Elliot, we’ve received a small data packet from Admiral Eling. It appears she has sent over some numbers for you. I’m going to send it through to your terminal in the ready room. Bridge out. =/\=

The captain’s terminal blipped to life with a brief image of Starfleet Medical that was shortly replaced with some information the admiral had compiled on Peshka III.

“Sorry for being late Captain,” she said stopping short inside the door of the Ready Room, hair coming loose from her ponytail and grease stains on the arms of her uniform. Of course she had heard the news that there was a new CO, but she had yet to meet her. “Uh, ship is ready to go whenever we have orders Captain.”

Koria moved around the room till she found an empty space, all the while trying to resist the urge to brush some of the stains off her uniform.

Elliot dipped her chin acknowledging the chief engineer.

Daniel looked up as the Chief Engineer entered, offering a polite nod as she made her way to an empty seat.

“Good morning, Lieutenant.”

There was no judgement in his tone, only a quiet professionalism. He noticed the grease on her sleeves and the loose ponytail, signs of someone who had been working rather than simply losing track of time.

“Thank you for ensuring the Ogawa is ready to sail.”

A faint smile crossed his face.

“I suspect we’ll all become accustomed to interrupted days aboard a medical ship.”

With that, Daniel returned his attention to the front of the room, leaving the Captain to continue the meeting at her discretion.

OOC: This information has not been announced yet. The CO has not begun the meeting.

“The majority of the population is infected,” Sadie observed, “We will have to be cautious to ensure none of our relief team contract this infection.”

” I concur with Lieutenant Commander Sadie Captain.” Replied Ronda looking up from her padd.

After refreshing her cup from one of the pitchers on the table, Cypress finally took her seat. “There are several things that need to be covered in this meeting. First of all, I am Captain Cypress Elliot, newly assigned to the Athena. This will be our first mission together. We also have a new First Officer, Daniel Hawthorne. I understand we are new to the ship and crew, but Star Fleet saw fit to put us together so let’s make the best of it. Cmdr Hawthorne and I are looking forward to serving with all of you.”

She looked at the material from the packet and sent the information to every PaDD sitting on the table. “As you can see, we are on a rescue mission. On the outskirts of the Romulan neutral zone, there is a colony called Peshka III. It has been overtaken by an upper respiratory illness that is killing the inhabitants. The only medical support they have at the moment, are a field medic and his assistant. I would imagine their supplies are totally depleted by now with the sheer numbers that are infected.”

Brad let out a low whistle as the numbers hit his PADD.

Deep blue eyes travelled around the table. “We’re going to need infectious material gear for anyone dealing with the inhabitants. Apparently the disease easily passed from one person to the next and we don’t want to bring it back on board the Athena. Medical, we need to make sure we have everything we need ready to go. The thing that winds up killing these people is a lack of ability to breathe, so we’ll need ventilators and an abundance of broncho dilators, but only if you agree. Engineering, you’ll have to set up large scale isolation units with negative pressure entrances and exits.”

“The triage deck should be set up for that already,” Brad chimed in.

She sipped her coffee again. “We need to leave ASAP, people, so let’s figure out what we need from the star base and get it here quick.” Cy leaned back in her chair, the first time she’d physically relaxed since entering the room. “Let’s hear ideas and possible solutions.”

Daniel waited until Captain Elliot had finished before speaking, giving the room a moment to absorb the gravity of the mission.

He glanced down at the PADD before looking around the table.

“Our priorities are clear—speed, containment, and preserving as many lives as possible.”

He folded his hands on the table.

“The Captain has already outlined our immediate objectives. Before we depart, I’d like each department to identify any equipment, personnel, or specialist support they believe will be essential for this mission. If there’s something you need from the star base, now is the time to ask for it, not after we’re underway.”

His attention shifted briefly towards Commander Walker and Lieutenant Holms.

“Medical, I’d appreciate your assessment of the resources we’ll require, and whether there are additional precautions we should consider beyond what’s already been discussed. If there’s a possibility we’re dealing with an unknown pathogen, I’d rather prepare for the worst and discover we’ve overestimated the threat than find ourselves short of critical supplies.”

“We should be fully stocked on medication and supplies, but I’ll requisition some additional stocks of respiratory therapy drugs and equipment to make sure we have enough to fully treat the entire colony and the entire crew. Prepare for the worst, and all.”

Cypress nodded her agreement.

He then looked to Lieutenant Sutret.

“Lieutenant Sutret, once Medical has identified their requirements, I’d like Engineering to advise how quickly we can configure the isolation facilities and whether there are any modifications we can make to increase our treatment capacity should the number of patients exceed our sickbay’s normal limits.”

“Normal limits? There are almost 5,000 patients waiting for us. I’d say that number will exceed the limits of our sickbay situation, so preparations will have to be made while we’re underway. Lt Sutret, commandeer any space or supplies you need to turn the ship into a working hospital. I’m sure after all the medical space is used, we can use cargo bays. It’s up to you.”

Daniel’s gaze travelled around the remainder of the table.

“If anyone sees a potential problem with our current approach, I want to hear it now. A fresh perspective before we leave spacedock is far easier to accommodate than one after we’ve arrived.”

He offered a small, reassuring smile.

“This is our first mission together as a command team. Let’s make sure the people of Peshka III remember the Ogawa for the lives we saved.”

With that, Daniel settled back in his chair, turning his attention to the department heads as he waited for their professional recommendations.

Cmdr. Dr. Brad Walker

“Uh, that is correct Commander. The Triage Deck would still be set-up with those protocols in mind. We might have to do some modifications if you wish to set the ship down on the planet, as we had to modify the exterior doors in order to accommodate the ship to ship airlock, but that shouldn’t take that long to reconfigure.

“I think we should be prepared for that, and would in fact recommend that,” Brad said, looking to Cypress and Daniel. “We’re already talking about numbers in excess of what we can reasonably shuttle aboard, and roughly ten times more patients than we have beds for even with the triage deck.”

Come to it, they were pushing the limits of the Nightingale-class’ maximum evacuation capacity. Landing wouldn’t just be prudent, it would just about be the only option.

“But I can have my teams verify that all of the air scrubbers are still fully functional, and that the deck can still be fully isolated from the rest of the ship if needed.”

Lt Sutret - CE

Cmdr. Dr. Brad Walker
Chief of Staff

“Do that, and prepare the ship for landing just in case we need to.”

OOC: Does anyone else want to say anything here? If not, I’ll move it along tomorrow.
