Elliot stood in the Ready Room, a cup of coffee in her hand, the other on the back of her chair. She’d called a meeting of all DHs (and any others who feel they should attend). They’d received there first mission orders and speed was of the essence. There were pitchers of water and coffee on the table along with cups and glasses. At each place was a PaDD with the mission outline on it that each officer would be able to take with them when the meeting was over. This was also the first time she would meet some of the crew as the mission had come up shortly after she and Hawthorne had boarded.CO Cypress Elliot
USS OgawaBrad was the first to arrive, one eyebrow raising as he took in the mostly empty room before making his way to the captain’s end of the table.
“We’ve got a mission already, Captain?” he asked.
Cmdr. Dr. Brad Walker
Chief of StaffElliot looked to the head of her medical crew. “It would seem so, doctor. A rescue of sorts.”
“And here I was hoping for a nice nebula categorizing milk run,” Brad said wryly. As if a medical ship would ever be sent on a mission where there weren’t people in need of assistance.
Dr. Holms was the second to enter the ready room acknowledging both the Captain and Chief of Staff as she took a seat.

Daniel entered the Ready Room a few moments after Lieutenant Holms, carrying a mug of freshly replicated tea. His eyes briefly swept around the room, noting those already present before offering each officer a polite nod.
“Captain… Commander Walker… Lieutenant Holms.”
He greeted them warmly before taking the seat immediately to Captain Elliot’s right, placing his padd neatly on the table but leaving it untouched for the moment. Whatever orders Starfleet had sent, they would all hear them together.
Looking towards Brad, a faint smile crossed his face.
“It would appear Starfleet doesn’t believe in giving a new command team much time to unpack.”
Brad shrugged, “It could’ve been worse,” he said. “The mission orders didn’t beat you here, at least.”
There was a hint of humour in his voice, but his expression soon settled back into one of quiet professionalism.
“I suppose that’s as good a way as any to get to know one another.”
“Certainly more effective than endless rounds of icebreaker games in the lounge,” Brad agreed.
With that, Daniel folded his hands on the table and looked towards Captain Elliot, making it clear he was ready for the briefing to begin whenever she was.

Cypress continued to stand behind her chair as the senior staff rolled in. The fact that she was already there and meeting all those who entered with a direct look in their eyes, was a little startling to those who noticed. “Everyone please be seated, I’m afraid we are on a time crunch and the sooner we can disseminate this information, the better we’ll be. We need to be underway as soon as possible.”CO Cypress Elliot
USS OgawaSadie entered the ready room silently and found a place to sit.
Brad found his seat, across the table from the XO and on the Captain’s left.
OOC: Agreed , all good with me
Daniel inclined his head in acknowledgment.
“Understood, Captain.”
He reached for the PADD but resisted the temptation to open it. There would be time for mission details once everyone expected had arrived. For now, he was content to wait.
His gaze moved around the Ready Room, taking quiet stock of the officers who had already assembled. New faces, new personalities, and a new command team. First impressions mattered, and Daniel made a mental note to introduce himself properly to those he hadn’t yet had the opportunity to meet.
Resting his hands lightly on the table, he settled back into his chair, allowing the remaining department heads time to arrive before the briefing commenced.

The captain’s terminal blipped to life with a brief image of Starfleet Medical that was shortly replaced with some information the admiral had compiled on Peshka III.

“Sorry for being late Captain,” she said stopping short inside the door of the Ready Room, hair coming loose from her ponytail and grease stains on the arms of her uniform. Of course she had heard the news that there was a new CO, but she had yet to meet her. “Uh, ship is ready to go whenever we have orders Captain.”
Koria moved around the room till she found an empty space, all the while trying to resist the urge to brush some of the stains off her uniform.

Daniel looked up as the Chief Engineer entered, offering a polite nod as she made her way to an empty seat.
“Good morning, Lieutenant.”
There was no judgement in his tone, only a quiet professionalism. He noticed the grease on her sleeves and the loose ponytail, signs of someone who had been working rather than simply losing track of time.
“Thank you for ensuring the Ogawa is ready to sail.”
A faint smile crossed his face.
“I suspect we’ll all become accustomed to interrupted days aboard a medical ship.”
With that, Daniel returned his attention to the front of the room, leaving the Captain to continue the meeting at her discretion.

After refreshing her cup from one of the pitchers on the table, Cypress finally took her seat. “There are several things that need to be covered in this meeting. First of all, I am Captain Cypress Elliot, newly assigned to the Athena. This will be our first mission together. We also have a new First Officer, Daniel Hawthorne. I understand we are new to the ship and crew, but Star Fleet saw fit to put us together so let’s make the best of it. Cmdr Hawthorne and I are looking forward to serving with all of you.”
She looked at the material from the packet and sent the information to every PaDD sitting on the table. “As you can see, we are on a rescue mission. On the outskirts of the Romulan neutral zone, there is a colony called Peshka III. It has been overtaken by an upper respiratory illness that is killing the inhabitants. The only medical support they have at the moment, are a field medic and his assistant. I would imagine their supplies are totally depleted by now with the sheer numbers that are infected.”
Brad let out a low whistle as the numbers hit his PADD.
Deep blue eyes travelled around the table. “We’re going to need infectious material gear for anyone dealing with the inhabitants. Apparently the disease easily passed from one person to the next and we don’t want to bring it back on board the Athena. Medical, we need to make sure we have everything we need ready to go. The think that winds up killing these people is a lack of ability to breathe, so we’ll need ventilators and an abundance of broncho dilators, but only if you agree. Engineering, you’ll have to set up large scale isolation units with negative pressure entrances and exits.”
“The triage deck should be set up for that already,” Brad chimed in.
She sipped her coffee again. “We need to leave ASAP, people, so let’s figure out what we need from the star base and get it here quick.” Cy leaned back in her chair, the first time she’d physically relaxed since entering the room. “Let’s hear ideas and possible solutions.”
CO Cypress Elliot
USS OgawaDaniel waited until Captain Elliot had finished before speaking, giving the room a moment to absorb the gravity of the mission.
He glanced down at the PADD before looking around the table.
“Our priorities are clear—speed, containment, and preserving as many lives as possible.”
He folded his hands on the table.
“The Captain has already outlined our immediate objectives. Before we depart, I’d like each department to identify any equipment, personnel, or specialist support they believe will be essential for this mission. If there’s something you need from the starbase, now is the time to ask for it, not after we’re underway.”
His attention shifted briefly towards Commander Walker and Lieutenant Holms.
“Medical, I’d appreciate your assessment of the resources we’ll require, and whether there are additional precautions we should consider beyond what’s already been discussed. If there’s a possibility we’re dealing with an unknown pathogen, I’d rather prepare for the worst and discover we’ve overestimated the threat than find ourselves short of critical supplies.”
“We should be fully stocked on medication and supplies, but I’ll requisition some additional stocks of respiratory therapy drugs and equipment to make sure we have enough to fully treat the entire colony and the entire crew. Prepare for the worst, and all.”
He then looked to Lieutenant Sutret.
“Lieutenant Sutret, once Medical has identified their requirements, I’d like Engineering to advise how quickly we can configure the isolation facilities and whether there are any modifications we can make to increase our treatment capacity should the number of patients exceed our sickbay’s normal limits.”
Daniel’s gaze travelled around the remainder of the table.
“If anyone sees a potential problem with our current approach, I want to hear it now. A fresh perspective before we leave spacedock is far easier to accommodate than one after we’ve arrived.”
He offered a small, reassuring smile.
“This is our first mission together as a command team. Let’s make sure the people of Peshka III remember the Ogawa for the lives we saved.”
With that, Daniel settled back in his chair, turning his attention to the department heads as he waited for their professional recommendations.

“Uh, that is correct Commander. The Triage Deck would still be set-up with those protocols in mind. We might have to do some modifications if you wish to set the ship down on the planet, as we had to modify the exterior doors in order to accommodate the ship to ship airlock, but that shouldn’t take that long to reconfigure.
“But I can have my teams verify that all of the air scrubbers are still fully functional, and that the deck can still be fully isolated from the rest of the ship if needed.”
