Sam regained consciousness when his body decided he’d had enough time unconscious. He knew the Gavroche enough to know that this was a new sickbay on a new ship. The smell, though similar had a slightly different scent to it, still citrusy, just a different citrus, more … professional … less you’ll get the scent that no other ships want.

Sam appreciated that, and his eyes flicked open, which set off the appropriate warnings on the sickbay systems that the Lucky O’Grady was not yet dead, and even though he was unlikely to be doing the highland fling anytime soon, being alive was a good start at least, and in time he’d probably look on the bright side of life. He almost tried to whistle, but thought better of it.

A nurse was quick to respond to the alarms, silencing them with some deft finger work on the biobed.

“Good morning, Ensign,” she said cheerfully. “Welcome back to the waking world.”

Nurse

“Good morning Nurse,” Samuel replied, “pleased to be back. When can I get to my duties?”

  • Lucky, Sec, USS Ogawa

“Once you no longer look and feel like an incomplete puzzle that may or may not be missing a piece,” another voice responded, as Dr. Brad Walker strode into the ward, alerted by the alarms prior to the nurse silencing them.

“I’m Dr. Brad Walker, and you’re on board the USS Ogawa. In case you missed it prior to your sedation, you’ve been transferred to our crew for treatment and rehabilitation, and then you’ll join our security team. I’ll introduce you to the Captain and your new department head shortly, if you’re feeling up to it?”

“Thank you Doctor Walker, I appreciate it,” Lucky replied, “I am up to it. I …,” he paused, cleared his throat and asked, “how long has it been since I … saved the Gavroche’s away team?”

  • Lucky, Sec, USS Ogawa

“Well it’s been two days since you arrived here,” Brad said, pulling up a PaDD. “With travel time, plus the initial treatment on the Gavroche… about two weeks?”

=/\=On my way,=/\= Myqian said.

“Two weeks,” Sam repeated, trying to match up that reality with what his mind was telling him, “well, thanks doctor Walker. But a question for you if you don’t mind. If I was double dating with the elephant man, would he or I be the looker?”

  • Lucky, Sec, USS Ogawa

“Most of your lingering damage is sub-dermal, so if your mug could pull before, you should be fine,” Brad said. “Thanks to modern medicine, you won’t be nearly as scarred as if you’d pulled a stunt like this before dermal regeneration technology.”

“Oh that’s good to hear, so I’ve only got my own bad choices to blame then,” Samuel replied with a grin.

A few minutes later, Dira stepped into Primary Sickbay and made her way over to their newest crew member.

She was of average height and bore both visible traits of her heritage: the bulges and ridges over her brows and the black eyes. Myqian moved with ease and confidence and cut a tidy figure in her command uniform and cropped tight black curls. She gave a soft and reassuring smile as she approached and nodded to the medical staff, including Brad. “Welcome back, Ensign. I’m Dira Myqian, captain of the Ogawa. I hear you’re going to be sticking around once you’re up and about.”

Captain Myqian, CO

Brad gave a nod back.

Lucky smiled at the Captain.

“Please excuse me for not getting up to greet you properly, Captain,” Sam replied, “I look forward to helping protect the ship and her crew once I’m up and about once more.”

“With the Doctor and his team, I’m sure I’ll be doing my job in no time, Captain, and then I’ll return to my efforts to keep the crew out of death’s embrace, putting myself in harm way once again, so that medical can patch me up again,” Sam continued, “no, that’s not a threat, it’s a promise.”

  • Lucky, Sec, USS Ogawa

Myqian smirked. “Well, we’ll try our best not to require if of you. Yu’ll find the majority of the crew rather eager to avoid those types of scenarios, but given our history we also know it will happen more than we like. But don’t mind us if you find us wishing for your work to feel rather boring. It’s a good thing, trust me.”

Captain Myqian, CO

Zoi arrived shortly after the Captain. She had been in the middle of a briefing for the next shift when the call had come. She watched from the doorway for several moments, letting the exchange go as it would. She wanted to observe her new Ensign around the Captain and the Doc. A person could tell a lot from these interactions. Sam was almost flippant about his brush with death. She wondered if he was a thrill seeker or if he simply took everything with this attitude. Would it be a help or a hindrance she wondered?

Nodding to herself she came around the corner and stopped beside the Captain. She was average in height for a human woman and it was easy to see she was a runner if he was any kind of observer. She had icy blue eyes that took in much, an attractive face, and blonde curls that were currently messily tied in an updo off the collar of her crisp and clean uniform. “We certainly won’t let you get into trouble just yet. I don’t think the Captain would want our newest recruit to be injured so quickly after he arrived and Dr. Walker might have my head if you lose yours under his exquisite care.”

Haven, CoS

“Only if you’re the one responsible for the loss, Commander,” Brad demurred. “I like to dispense my blame like my medications: targeted where it will do the most good.”
