“I don’t know,” Dira said, a statement that held many layers. “You know as well as I do that we can’t just expect physiological reactions to just stop happening. I don’t choose to have panic and anxiety attacks when I’m on this deck. But doing the work will make it easier. I will see what Mariah says and maybe she will recommend we visit this space again- many many times. But I am definitely ready to get the hell out of here and go see about this.”
She looked away for a moment, her eyes drifting over the space that still had a energy to it that made her uncomfortable. She wondered for a moment if wearing her headband here might help. It was worth considering. When she looked back at Royal, there was determination in her eyes, but also gratitude. “Thank you,” she said softly. “I’ve been doing my best to keep it all together, but there are so many moving pieces and…” She breath out a breath. “I’m glad I have you at my side, looking out for the ship, and me.”

Royal smiled at her and said “Thats why they pay me the big bucks.” He then gestured to the access tub and said “After you. And let me know if you need help. But i am proud of you for getting through this.”

She had been pushing down the part of her that wanted to flee from this space and she still was. Or rather she was reminding herself that yes it was hard, but she could do hard things. Dira moved to the opening and crawled into the tube, completing the sequence of events. Now she was following the path of her escape, but though her left wrist still ached a bit, she didn’t have to favour it in order to move along the jefferies tube.
She hung a right and moved to the end, slipping out into the maintenance room and waited for Royal. “You know the other thing I had the presence of mind to do after I kicked him? I pocketed the hypo he used on me and took the PADD he’d been running his programs off of. Evidence…” she said with the barest gleam in his eye. But more than that, taking the PADD meant he couldn’t use it to harm anyone else.

Royal huffed and puffed and squeezed himself out of the access hatch with all the finesse of… well… a huge man being squeezed out of a small tube. He stood up and brushed off his uniform and nodded. “I read the forensic notes. With that things you gave them and what they found? Like I said… jail on top of him.”

As they stepped out into the corridor, Dira smiled. “It’s going to be awhile before the cognitive dissonance fades, and definitely not on its own.” Myqian looked up and down the corridor and then ack at him, offering an amused, if weary smile. “Now I think I am going to go start the process and later maybe hit the Lounge and see how the gossip evolved from the last hour. It does always amaze me how fast it can spread and how much it can morph. Can I leave the Bridge with you for a couple hours?”

“Would nae have it any other way, Skipper.” Sinclair said with a smile. “Go on, then. Take care of you for a bit. I’ll make sure we don’t steer ourselves into a black hole.” and he smiled more broadly and turned towards the turbolift. “But you owe me a drink!” and he laughed as he stepped into the lift and disappeared.
