“Are there any other things you’d like to test out with this ship? We’ve thankfully not been in any direct conflict, but we’ve only had one sort of crisis situation to attend to mission-wise. I think drills for other scenarios are not out of the question, especially since it’s been a little bit since we’ve done so.” Dira ran through what that might all look like and it was something else to talk to Royal about at their next meeting.

“Well… if you ask me.... Our purpose may not be inteded to be a fighter.... however we still must know how to proceed when put into dangerous situations. I would think that a wargame senario may help us understand the practicality behind the theoretical.... but for that we would potentially need another ship.... or a very good holodeck program. That gives me an idea… it wouldnt be the same as a real live test but simulations can get pretty close… if we know just how much juice to put when and where it shouldnt be too hard to come out of alomost any scrap relatively unscathed. But that is also feels like more of a security thing.” Maria’s hand encircled her chin as she thought more and more her bouncing stopped and brought her crashing back to reality and a heavier subject.

And just like that an idea blossomed in her mind and Dira nodded, folding her arms over her chest. “And the Nightingale-class has a few details that make it far easier to produce a simulation on a larger scale than our previous ship. You know what? I was just going to send you to Sinclair about the R&R idea, but I feel like I need to sit in on it as well. Maybe we can tie the two together? Do a simulation in space, and then land the ship out of necessity. And there you have it, we’re all set for R&R. What do you think?”

Maria nodded her thoughtful look never going away. “Maybe, that does sound like a good idea. Something like we’ve received a request to provide relief and aid in hostile space. Doing so we have to come up against a few enemy star ships, and make a planetary landing to provide, relief, aid, and provisions… how does that sound as a mockup Captain?” She asked. “If we play it right, inform senior staff as a need to know only, we can make it a surprise for the crew to turn what they thought would be a relief and aid mission into R&R and shore leave?”

Looking around the shuttlebay, for a brief time Dira had forgotten where she even was and the destruction that had been created by a certain delusional man. She could almost see the drills playing out across the ship like a well-rehearsed orchestra. “I think that would work nicely. Commander Sinclair and I can suss out what areas could work on what drills and how best to either keep the rest a secret or maybe we’ll just play dumb,” she said with a grin. “Not sure that that would actually work, but it’s amusing to imagine.”

Maria chuckled to herself a bit and nodded. “That sounds good. Maybe we should make ourr way over and talk about this together with him. But back to keeping secrets. Thats why during the briefing you would more than likely would have to tell the Senior staff… I havent really interacted with a few of the others so I dont know how well they keep secrets but I imagine if you tell them to treat it as top secret on the other half I would imagine that they would. Though… it may give me time to figure out and rig a protocall for silent running....” Maria rubbed her chin looking thoughtful. “She may not be exactly designed for it… but with some planning it shouldn’t be to impossible.”

“GALEN can help with that too, don’t forget. Just ask nicely,” Myqian said with a grin. The AI seemed to have it’s own sort of personality and in general was pleasant to deal with.

Maria nodded. “I have not had time to talk to or meet with GALEN, I will have to make sure I set out some time to do so.”

Maria was right that they could go up and discuss it now, see if Royal was free. She was momentarily disoriented as she remembered it was still pretty early in the morning and she was due up on the bridge in a little while. “Why don’t we see if the good commander is free right now,” she said before tapping her combadge. =/\=Myqian to Sinclair? You free for a pre-shift coffee meeting? Lt. Maria and I are plotting.=/\=

The easily excitable girl gave her signature wide grin and nodded she kept herself quiet if just barely for the comm to the commander. She anxiously awaited his reply.

There was brief pause and the the brogue of the new XO was heard. =/\= Plotting? Count me in. I’m always up for a good plot. Especially first thing in the morning. Your office or the Conference room, Captain? =/\=

Sinclair, XO

Dira grinned. =/\=Conference Room. There’s a half-chance people will assume I’m in a meeting and not disturb me.=/\= Maybe. It was worth a shot. =/\=We’re on Deck 9. We’ll meet you up there.=/\=

Maria grinned towards the Captain practically beaming in delight. She wasn’t thinking about where they were exactly and the information she had found out in the beginning of this little oddessey, as she did sort of a half bow and gestured out towards the door on the current deck they were on. “After you Captain.”

Moving towards the exit, Dira stopped and then looked up the stairs to where they had come from and veered in that direction. It wasn’t even entirely a conscious decision but there was no way in hell she was leaving the shuttlebay from this deck. It had been bad enough when Sinclair and the Admiral had shown up.

Maria had followed after concerned then she remembered and looked down embarassed. “I apologize captain I forgot.” She said as she headded up the stairs and follows after the Captain to the Turbolift.

“Don’t be. It’s not your fault,” Dira said simply. Her feelings about the matter were safely tucked away since she was now in work mode.

It didn’t take long to get to Deck 1, and Dira moved with confident strides the closer they got to the conference room. Stepping in, she beelined for the replicator. “I’m getting coffee. Anything for you, Maria?”

Maria nodded as they got close to the confrence room. “Uh, a green tea, splash of lemon, iced if you would please ma’am.” She said and stepped to the door for it to open. Once it did she stepped into the confrence room and went to one of the chairs and took a seat.

Dria grabbed the coffee and green tea and moved to sit at the head of the table, setting Maria’s tea in front of her.

Maria gave an appreciative smile and took the glass positioning it infront of her, near the edge of the confrence table. “Thank you Captain.”

A moment later the door slid open and the XO stepped through. “Captain. Lieutenant. Good morning.” he said, his thick brogue heavier than normal. “Haven’t had my coffee yet, so bear with me.” and he moved to the replicator and ordered a large black coffee. He then took a seat and looked at the two other individuals. “So what are plotting?” he asked and took a sip.

Sinclair, XO

Maria turned in her chair to the door and gave a warm smile towards Dr Royal. “Good morning sir. I know it’s quite early… but well I think the Captain can explain better than I can.” She said before turning back to look at the Dira.

Dira sipped as well. “Well, Maria and I have been brainstorming after we ran into each other this morning and I think it might work nicely with something else I was discussing with Commander Marshall. He and I were discussing possible emergency medical drills, and then when Maria and I were talking we broached the idea of both R&R on a planet and a reason to land the ship, since we’ve not had the opportunity to so far. So, I want to run this by you to get your thoughts. So… what would you say to crafting a large scale emergency for the ship that would test not just the medical staff, but everyone. And whatever scenario we come up with would necessitate landing the ship. Once the drill is over, we’re already at a nice pre-picked planet and everyone gets R&R and gets that morale booster we were talking about.”

Maria didn’t say anything at first letting it all soak in. She did have a large grin on her face.

Sinclair was silent a moment and sipped his coffee. “I think…” he said after a few moments, “… that that is an excellent idea. And if I may make a suggestion…” and he stood and moved to the room’s holodisplay. “We need a planet that one, we can land on without risk to the ship. Two, that we can have enough space to run something along the lines of a mass casualty scenario.” He tapped as he spoke. “Three, that has the facilities to support the crew for an R&R leave. And four, that has the additional facilities that can handle repairs if the landing goes awry.” He looked at the two of them and said “Agree?” and then went back to searching for a list of planetary candidates.

Maria nodded. “I had immagined like a total wargame simulation… that we may be able to test, and possibly run a heavy stress test for certain systems and equipment… we know about theoritical limmits that we should not cross, but each equipment still in manufacturing even with material replicators may be ever so slightly different. I hope that we don’t have to use anything near the limit however it would be a good idea to know what those limits are incase we need to push something just right before the breaking point. The idea for me at least is a test of several systems and features we have not used so that we can train and make sure we do know how to use and opperate those systems and features. I do agree with all of these things you have said Commander.” Maria said and nodded.
