Achilleas woke up to a dull throbbing sensation that seemed to resonate throughout his entire being. His head felt heavy, as if it were encased in a foggy haze. Confusion knitted his brows as he tried to make sense of his surroundings. All he could see were the sterile, white walls of what appeared to be a medical facility. His gaze shifted, and he realized he was lying on a biobed, surrounded by a plethora of blinking monitors and unfamiliar instruments. His movements were sluggish, as if his body was moving through water. He tried to sit up, but a wave of pain shot through his head and down his spine, leaving him gasping for breath. He winced, a groan escaping his lips, as he gingerly touched his head, his fingers grazing bandages that covered what felt like a tender wound.
His best friend, Solal. That’s who he had been with, right? He struggled to remember, his thoughts tangled and disjointed. He could recall snippets, flashes of an accident, a blur of movement, and then… nothing. His memories were like fragments of a shattered mirror, distorted and incomplete.
The pain was unrelenting, and he felt a slight pressure on his hand. Turning his gaze, he saw a medical officer standing beside him, concern etched on their features. Their lips moved, but the words were distant, muffled, as if they were coming from underwater. He strained to focus, to understand, but it was a futile effort.
Achilleas felt adrift in a sea of confusion and agony. His mind was a whirlpool of jumbled thoughts, a puzzle missing crucial pieces. He wanted to ask questions, to demand answers, but even forming the words felt like an insurmountable task.
As his eyes drifted shut once more, he was left with a haunting sense of disconnection, of being trapped within his own body. The pain ebbed and flowed like waves crashing against the shore, and amidst the turmoil, he clung to the hope that clarity would eventually emerge from the fog that enveloped him.

She had wanted to come earlier, but there had been nothing she could do but wait. When enough time had passed, Dira excused herself from the bridge and made her way to where Achilleas was recovering. The captain gave a nod to to the staff as she approached, her eyes skimming the biobed readings. “He’s in quite a bit of a pain,” she said simply and moved closer, but unlike the mess with Frigga, she didn’t dare touch him.
Leaning in, Myqian spoke softly in his ear. “You’re safe. Everything is going to be okay.”

Achilleas was in a state of semi-consciousness, his mind drifting between the world of dreams and the reality of the sickbay. The pain that had plagued him was still there, a constant companion that refused to let go. The gentle beeping of the monitors surrounded him, like distant echoes in the fog.
As Dira entered the room, he registered her presence even before his heavy eyelids could fully open. He tried to focus on her voice, on her words, which seemed to cut through the haze that enveloped him. Her reassurance, the soft whisper in his ear, was a balm to his tormented mind.
“You’re safe. Everything is going to be okay.”
Her words held a promise, a lifeline to reality. Achilleas took a shaky breath, the effort to respond feeling monumental. His lips parted, but the words were mere whispers, barely audible even to his own ears.
“Thank… you.”
His voice was weak, strained, but it carried a genuine gratitude. He wished he could muster the strength to reach out, to reassure her in return, but his body felt heavy, anchored to the biobed by the weight of his injuries and the haze of medication.
Yet, even in this state, her presence was a comfort, a reminder that he wasn’t alone in this struggle.
