“Your mental health is equally as important as my physical health.” Solal crossed his arms in a stubborn emotional response to the situation. “You get regular psych appointments, or I don’t go to sickbay except for emergencies. If you can ignore your problem, I can ignore mine.”

~ Solal

Achilleas finally turned his head to look at Solal. His expression turned cold. “An ultimatum? And using your wellbeing to coerce me? Are you sure this is how you want to proceed with this? Besides do you think this is going to be effective? You’re already ignoring your problems, so if I was dead set against seeing the counselor’s absolutely nothing would change. At least you finally admitted to having a problem though.”

Sci Petrakos

Are you? Dead set against seeing the counselors? Why? You have an emotional problem. They fix emotional problems.” Solal shrugged, “I am not ignoring them. I show up in sickbay for all scheduled appointments. I do all recommended treatments.”

~ Solal

Achilleas looked at Solal without saying anything for a long moment. It seemed like Solal was trying to see if he was bluffing, and conveniently Solal kept trying to deflect and side-step from his own problems. Even after letting it slip that he could ignore his problem if Achilleas could as well.

With a slump to his shoulders Achilleas shook his head in defeat. There was no point in trying to continue convincing Solal it seemed. Using logic didn’t work. Emotional appeals didn’t work. Calling him out on his crap didn’t work. Then he gets an ultimatum thrown in his face when it wasn’t remotely called for. He slowly got to his feet and gave Solal another look. “I hope that your monitoring bracelet works quicker the next time something happens because I can’t always be with you if it gets bad. In the future don’t you dare use your health as leverage with me. I don’t care if my mental health is as important as your physical health or not. To even imply you will forego treatment if I won’t do something in return really makes me angry.” He shook his head again in frustration before he headed towards the holodeck exit.

Sci Petrakos

Oh. Solal was really bad at people. Achilleas was right to be angry, too. He stepped towards the holodeck door, “Achilleas, wait. I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have said that. I was… too emotional.” He stopped and waited to see if Achilleas was going to turn around or continue to leave. If he kept going, Solal would not chase him down. To Solal that would mean he wanted space and Solal works respect that.

~ Solal

Achilleas stopped short of the yawning exit. For Solal to admit to having an emotional moment was like seeing a blizzard in summer, so he had to give the apology all due consideration. He had another big sigh before he crossed his arms in a guarded body language sign and turned around. He wasn’t ready to commit to staying just yet, or forgiving Solal right off the bat, but he would give him a chance to say something else.

Sci Petrakos

Solal recognized that cross armed grumpy faced look. He was being expected to say something more than he already had. What was he supposed to say? Why were emotional people so hard to understand? “It wasn’t.... Fair. To you.” This was unbelievably awkward. Why was he doing this? “I’ll… Um. Try to do better.” He stood there like an awkward, embarrassed lump, looking at Achilleas like he had no idea what to expect.

~ Solal

Achilleas sighed again for what felt like the umpteenth time. He knew he shouldn’t expect a well adjusted emotional apology from Solal. Whether Solal was capable of such a thing was another discussion altogether but his insistence of following the Vulcan path of non-emotion meant that there would be no heart-to-heart moments between them. The thing was Achilleas didn’t believe Solal was all that good at it. Now admittedly the illness leading to a more pronounced lack of emotional control was certainly a factor, but this made it even more frustrating when Solal had an emotional outburst but tried to button it up afterward and apologized in what seemed to be a less sincere manner.

He reached a hand up to pinch the bridge of his nose as another sigh came unbidden. “Alright.” He said with his head slightly lowered, his eyes closed, and the bridge of his nose pinched. “I forgive you. I still don’t want you to give me an ultimatum like that again but… I begrudgingly understand where you’re coming from with it. You want my mental health managed better just like I want your health, including mental health, managed better. Can we agree that we just want each other to be healthier and leave it at that for today?”
