With purposeful steps Aizala walked towards the Main Sickbay for the very first time. As always she was dressed in her uniform - white for the first time in her career - even though she was still technically on medical leave. But she needed to do something or she’d just go crazy and thankfully the Captain had suggested a fellowship. And while she could probably just give the order that that was what was going to happen, Aizala thought it would be nice if she’d introduce herself to the Chief of Staff beforehand. Stepping through the first set of doors and then into the sickbay once they opened, the petite redhead looked around this beautiful new sickbay. While she tried to keep a serious expression, she couldn’t fully keep the smile off her face.

Alerted to the new arrival, Brad swept in from the office suites on the Sickbay level.

“Can I help you, Doctor?” he asked.

Turning, Aizala looked at Brad. While the smile didn’t fully disappear from her face, her expression became instantly more serious. “Hello Commander. I’m mostly here to introduce myself properly. We already met briefly while a large number of the crew were affected by the fungus. My name is Tija Aizala. I’m not yet a part of your team, but I hope that will change.” She took a deep breath to steady herself. “I’m currently on medical leave on the Ogawa, but once I’m cleared for duty again I have been told that the plan is that I’ll become part of the crew.”

Brad did slightly recall the appearance of the Bajoran from the fungal disaster, and her circumstances from the mountain of paperwork he’d spent the past three weeks slogging through.

“That’s right,” he said. “Would you like to step into my office, so we can talk about how that integration can occur?”

“I would appreciate that a lot. Thank you Sir,” Aizala replied slight bow of her head and a small smile. “I also have few questions we might be able to talk about today if you time. If not, that is perfectly fine. It’s nothing urgent.”

Brad stepped to the side and gestured for Tija to enter his office. “No patients yet, I’ve got nothing but time, Doctor.”

“Thank you, Sir,” Aizala said again as she walked into his office. She let her gaze wander around the room as she made her way towards his desk and settled down in one of the guest chairs. Sitting in the guest chair instead of behind the desk felt a little strange to her, almost as if she was a patient. Which she was in a way. Though not his as their was nothing physically wrong with her. And yet this chair felt much better then sitting on a couch. It gave her a sense of stability and normalcy.

Touching the scar on her hairline absentmindedly with her fingertips, Aizala took a deep breath and then asked, “Before we go into any of the details about how this might all work, do you have any questions for and/or about me?”

“So I understand you’re a qualified emergency medicine and trauma surgeon specialist, and looking to transition away from that due to a psychological issue that I’m not going to pry into. I understand the desire, if not the exact circumstances, but what field are you looking to work in once you’re cleared to return to duty?” Brad asked.

Her lips pursed and her brows pulled slightly together, Aizala was silent for a moment and then said with a sigh, “That is the question. To be quite hones, Sir, I don’t know. When I chose my field of expertise, I went with emergency medicine and trauma surgery because of what happened to my sister. She-” Aizala’s voice faltered and she had to take a deep breath before she could continue. “She fell to her death when I was young. I saw her fall,” she said in an almost detached voice. “After what happened at the end of my last posting, it was suggested that I consider switching fields. I think they are right that it might be beneficial for me. I just don’t know what to do instead.”

“Hm,” Brad said. “A problem, but a good one to have. Was there ever another field that interested you while studying?” He wasn’t qualified in neurology, but he’d taken a couple of courses on it, both when first getting his degree, and then later during one of his repeat visits to Starfleet Medical.
