Posted by… suppressed (4) by the Post Ghost! 👻Ryder and Casela’s quarrel was within in earshot of Hampton, who had been intently scanning and analyzing the Data. He stopped suddenly and turned towards where Casela and Ryder had been, noticing the two were dispersing. A few choice words came into his head, he decided to pick the polite ones. “Hey How about you two stop acting like petty children and more like senior officers?” He called out to both but neither one in particular, “we have an an anomaly here, we don’t need tantrums too right now.” With that he turned back to his tricorder, grumbling about incompetence.
LT. William Hampton- CE
Casela held back a smirk. The man was a kindred soul. But she couldn’t do much until someone told them more. Doc Fey and her nurse were working on Cooper and Clark, the RTF team was doing, whatever it was they did, and Hampton hadn’t reported anything yet. Security hadn’t arrived yet, and niether had McHarrie or GLaDOS, so she continued to keep an eye on the door to make sure no one wandered back in. She glanced at Cobb again and shrugged. They could only move as fast as their ‘experts’ gave them information.
Lt. Synthi-er, CNS/RTFAs the First Officer made his retreat, the Captain remained silent, watching. But as soon as he had disappeared, Zachariah moved closer to Synthi-er and whispered, “I have enough on my hands to deal with right now, Cas. But remember what I said about off-duty business remaining off duty. Whatever is going on between you and Ryder, I don’t want to have to get involved. Understand?”
Casela choose her words very carefully. She dropped her voice, “I understand, Sir. I was under the impression this was off duty.” She winked, “but I promise you we understand each other’s humor even if no one else does. There is no problem here.” And she and Ryder did understand each other’s humor, that didn’t mean they agreed with it. A transfer, first chance, that is what she was going to do. Or better yet…awww crap her shuttle got left at the star base. So much for that idea.
Then, turning back to the room, he began to assist Kindle in ushering people quickly out of the area, calling out in an attempt to reassure them, “Everything is under control here. Just a little issue with the environmental controls. The party can continue in the other lounge. Go on, now. I’ll be there with you all soon.”
Unfortunately, his words did not have the desired effect and at the exit there appeared to be a mild commotion as several people attempted to pass through into the corridor at exactly the same time.Meanwhile, back at Copper and Clark’s table, the cloud-like formation was continuing to swell in size, a thin layer of ‘snow’ now forming on the booth seating and table top. Hampton’s tricorder would identify no obvious technical issues in the area. Indeed, beyond the reach of the cloud itself, everything seemed to register as perfectly ‘normal’. But once close to the affected area, the plummeting temperatures became immediately apparent - registering as low as −210 °C (−346 °F) in the centrepoint of the cloud itself. And something else would register too, on his scans - that the natural nitrogen in the air was beginning to concentrate more heavily around the area containing the cloud.

Lt. Synthi-er, CNSQuinn wanted to turn feline to get a better view of the flurries and have the added warmth of her fur coat but she hadn’t actually talked to the Captain or Manhattan about her ability to go from person to feline. She focused on getting the folks out the doorway and then turned to regard the room. She muttered under her breath as the temperature was still dropping the spread of the ‘flakes’ were definitely not normal and she was looking forward to having something more definitive to be doing.

OOC: because apparently I missed a direct order. :D
OOC: Coping from another thread:
IC: . =^=Doctor Kastil to Lieutenant Synthi-er, be advised I will have to prep crewman Cooper for surgery, we don’t have the means to stop the freezing process. His arm is in 315 degree water and is still freezing over. Avoid physical contact with the anomaly when possible. =^=
=^=Acknowledged doctor.=^= Casela walked over to Cobb, “Sir, Dr. Kastil says she can’t reverse the freezing process. She’s prepping Cooper for surgery.” Casela moved over to the rest of the people working. She spoke loud enough for everyone to hear, her voice carried but did not yell. She was not intending to startle anyone or distract, but everyone needed to know. “Dr. Kastil says she can’t stop or reverse the freezing process. And that thing is spreading so stay well back from it.”
“Surgery?” Cobb blinked. The man’s injury hadn’t appeared that severe from first glances. What the hell was this cloud doing to his people?
She turned to look at the door. Where was the AARM? She’d summoned him several minutes ago. She pulled out the communicator again, “Fenrir get your mechanical butt to the lounge, now.”
OOC: Jake, in case you missed the previous summons.
Lt. Synthi-er, CNS/RTFFenrir lumbered into the Jörmungandr, the reason for his delay was that he was undergoing yet another series of diagnostics and couldn’t disconnect until it was done. He looked around at the chaos though didn’t scan as he moved to his handlers side. “Passive mode is active, apologies for the delay Ma’am I was conducting diagnostics and could not disconnect from my hub.”
- Fenrir, KAI9 AARM
Casela nodded, “It’s alright, Fenrir. I’m just tense.” She would rather Fenrir finish his diagnostics. They left the starbase way too early and then NE Johnston’s little surprise. She pointed to the ice cloud, or whatever it was. “Scan and give me some options.”
LT. Synthi-er, KAI9 Handler
OOC: I’ll repeat the information that Hampton picked up on his tricorder, since no-one has reacted to it yet:
IC: Fenrir’s diagnostics would identify no obvious technical issues in the area.
Meanwhile the cloud continued to grow, now spanning almost an entire side of the room and encroaching rapidly on the fish-filled aquarium in the centre of the room. Much to Cobb’s horror.
“Does anyone have any suggestions for how we can stop this bloody thing?” he roared, his back now against the aquarium, as if he could protect it with his own bulk. Meanwhile, everything that the cloud passed over began to freeze, small drifts of the ‘snow’ now beginning to pile up against the far wall and seating.
- Captain Zachariah Cobb
OOC: this is why I don’t play a science character.....
IC: Casela looked at the cloud and back to Fenrir and then over to Hampton and the Lihew. “Any of you have something to disburse that concentrated Nitrogen?” She walked over and grabbed Cobbs arm and forcefully pulled him away from the fish tank and away from the cloud.Fenrir scanned, “We could attempt to contain the entity inside a containment field before increasing ‘O’ levels and decreasing ‘N’” The AARM unit was speaking using symbols from the periodic table, “Or we could vacate the room and increase the environmental temperature to the room.”
- Fenrir, KAI9
At the second suggestion by the Fenrir-bot, Cobb’s eyes went wide. “Now, just wait a minute,” he yelled, moving quickly towards Casela and her pet, “Nitrogen has a boiling point of around –320°F. That’s –196°C. So if we start raising the temperatures in here we run the risk of this thing exploding.”
With the room now mostly emptied of partygoers, Cobb signalled for the remaining crew to gather in the furthest corner from the ever-expanding snowstorm. “I suggest we get this thing contained. And quickly. Now keep in mind what I just said about the boiling point. Any containment is going to need strict temperature controls to keep it as cold as possible.”
- Captain Zachariah Cobb
Perhaps he was late for whatever was happening inside, but as he saw many leave the lounge, Erve ran to get the equipment first and with an outstanding fast return he got from the main door “Brr… damn that thing is ruining my skin!” He joked reaching the others grouped in the farthest corner, walking with a medium pace.
“Guy you did not told me it was a damn party! What is that, perhaps someone can briefly inform me?” He talked calmly as no calamity was going to happen in the next few minutes. If something was really weird in him was that even in the most stressful situation he could literally talk like nothing dangerous was happening.
M. Capt. Erve Manhattan - RCO
For the first, and possibly the last, time in his long life, Zachariah Cobb was glad to spot the approaching figure of Manhattan. Partly to brief the RTF Chief for immediate action and also partly to protect him from walking right under the damn thing, Cobb hurried over to him.
“Captain, as you can see we have a developing situation in here. This thing,” and here he gestured to the cloud that was now so large as to be approaching full 50% coverage of the room, “just appeared out of nowhere and started snowing on everything. Well, I say snowing but it appears to be some form of frozen nitrogen. I’ve had one serious casualty already and barely cleared the room before having more. And now, well, as you can see, it’s almost at my fish!”
“Fish? Lord that fish is risking its life for us. Remember to award the fish a medal for the bravery shown on the battlefield. For the rest I’ll try to contain it… let’s see…” he searched in the kit the multi-phasic force field generators.
And indeed, in the centre of the room, the cylindrical aquarium was already beginning to mist over with a thin layer of frost.
“Do something, Manhattan!” the captain roared.
- Captain Zachariah Cobb
“Don’t worry Captain, It’ll be quick. I need a volunteer to run over the other side and place these two thingy on the floor. I’ll be placing the other two on this side while I also install a micro-environmental control module. Who wants some fun?” He eyed the group with a big smile on his face “It just to contain this thing, then we can decide what to do with the anomaly.”
M. Capt. Erve Manhattan - RCO
The captain’s eyes darted nervously from the fish, to Manhattan, to the anomaly and then to the wider room as he waited for a volunteer to make themselves known. Meanwhile, the temperatures beneath the anomaly continued to plummet. Then just at that moment, as if to demonstrate current conditions point in the most tragic way possible, an RTF Operative on the perimeter slipped and fell underneath the cloud, his entire body freezing instantly, lips set for eternity into a terrified but silent scream…
- Captain Zachariah Cobb
The Captain was walking to put down the first row of generator to build the field when he saw the Agent freeze like a crystal statue “Ouch… I guess that’s more paperwork for me. Okay, everyone!” He started shouting “Only those volunteering to help me are granted to move, those who aren’t involved please stand still or you finish like this poor moron. Which makes him a moron… but poorer, you get it! So, who the hell is gonna help me?” He asked to the group as he just finished to lay down the first one “I am willing to give my medal for saving the CO’s fish to whoever will step in and set the other devices.” He giggled saying that.
