Some time after the dramatic arrival and the visit from the Doctor, Gen sat quietly playing with a rubix cube like toy. She twisted it a few times this way and that her eyes fixed on her task. Apparently she was content to stay here and since no one had tried to move her exactly this was the best place for her to be. Here she was…Safe? it was a thought broadcast across the area to the woman who had been so kind to her. For a moment the girl looked up at the counsellor and waited.
Watching the woman a moment Gen then went back to the puzzle.
Gen
Casela looked up from where she was working. The single word tore at her. She’d heard that same question so many times over the years. Before she could answer Casela had to reign in her talents. They had been used with force for too long and she had to remember to regulate them for every day use. Without even thinking about the consequences of her answer Casela spoke her. Always, as long as I am here, you will be safe.
The girl visably relaxed and continued twisting until she was done.
Casela took note of the rubix cube and stepped over to a storage area, and pulled down several more brain puzzles along the same concepts. She set them on a table near Gen if she would like to use them.
Lt. Synthi-er, CNSWhen the other puzzles came out she immediately stood and moved to the table to look through them. Using the opportunity to look at Casela. I don’t think I could do this before…its so much easier than talking....why do people bother to do the talking when this is so much easier.
Not all species can use telepathy, but it is much easier for those that can,” Casela tells her. Maybe Doc Fey can tell us why you can use telepathy now. If you want to know.*
Gen frowned and shook her head as if she didn’t want to know.
She selected a puzzle and began to work to solve it. ”I like puzzles..” she said out loud. ”Victor used to do puzzles with me. He was good at them, he had a big gold one from Vulcan in his office that he said I could try when I was older.” she looked happy at the memory but soon after her face centralised into a somber expression.
”Victor is gone now isn’t he?” she asked.
Gen
Casela thought for a moment and went back to the closet, she pulled out a Vulcan Kal-Toh, “Is this it?” She places it on the table for Gen. “Was Victor on the Phantom? Do you know what his job was? I could look him up and we can see.”
Lt. Synthi-er
”Yes!” she said with the first genuine full smile, she looked at the complicated puzzle and seemed to gush. ”He said it was one of the hardest puzzles ever…even some Vulcans struggle with it. His was a gift from a friend, they kept in touch over subspace and she wrote with him when they studied things.”
Casela smiled as the Gen’s face lite up at the sight of the puzzle. “Well I don’t know how to play, but maybe we can learn together, if you like?”
She nodded.
Her face fell again. ”Yes…he was on the phantom. He was Doctor Anderson…he worked in sickbay he was my mother’s boss…he had white hair and an accent. He wore a kilt at parties…I liked Victor.”
Gen
Caseal pulled up the records for the Phantom. She hoped that maybe this Doctor Anderson had been transferred off before the Phantom was lost, but she doubted it. But she would check non-the-less.
It appeared that he had been indeed on the ship when it was lost.
It was well into bravo shift by this point. Gen would need somewhere to sleep. There were several rooms on this deck for patients. Any of them would work well for her and allow Gen to stay here where she felt safe. Casela could easily move her own things down here and claim one for herself. She didn’t really like the ones on deck 3 anyway. “Are you getting hungry again?”
Lt. Synthi-er, CNSGen looked relieved and smiled. ”Is that what the echoy feeling is!” she asked feeling stupid.
Gen
Casela smiled, “Yes it probably is. Is there anything you would like to eat? Would you like the same thing you had earlier?”
Lt. Synthi-er, CNSGen looked confused a moment and then seemed to consider the question. ”I don’t know…incant remember what like.” she said. ”What do you like?”
